Better Than Ice Cream

By Samantha

Author's Note: Epilogue to the Love Song Series. I know it seemed like they were finished, but I thought that this song was a perfect fit for Jarod. Enjoy! ~~Bethe

Disclaimer: "Better Than Ice Cream" doesn't belong to me. I know that Sarah McLachlan sings it, but I'm not sure who wrote it.

It had taken a long time, almost two years, but Jarod and Katy had made it work and last. In fact, what had been thought impossible had happened: they got married.

After they saw to the demise of the Centre, they had a small ceremony in Blue Cove, complete with Broots as best man, Debbie as maid of honor, and Sydney to give Katy Parker away.

Now a year after the wedding, two years after they got together, Katy was pregnant. While she was doing the dishes, Jarod simply sat back and watched her. They were listening to the radio. Delilah, in fact. Her show had become a routine.

A week earlier, Jarod had sent an email to her website explaining the story, from that fateful night up to the present. What he hadn't counted on was her reading it on the air. Parker's movements slowed, then stopped as Delilah read the email's contents. She put down the dish that she was washing and turned towards Jarod. She started walking to him when Delilah said, "Thank you, J, for updating us all on your relationship with Katy. I wish the both of you the best. Here's the song you requested."

Drums intro'd the song, and a piano followed. A woman began vocalizing softly as Parker took Jarod into her arms. He merely smiled. The two began dancing right when the woman started to sing.

Your love is better than ice cream,

Better than anything else that I've tried.

Your love is better than ice cream.

Everyone here knows how to fight.

And it's a long way down.

It's a long way down.

It's a long way down to the place where we've started from.

Katy laughed at the words of the song. Only he could pick a song that compared love to ice cream. It was a sweet, jazzy sounding song with a simple melody. Thoughts of the past two years sprang up in both their minds at the mention of starting places. It truly was a long way from where they'd started.

Your love is better than chocolate,

Better than anything else that I've tried.

Oh love is better than chocolate.

Everyone here knows how to cry.

And it's a long way down.

It's a long way down.

It's a long way down to the place where we've started from.

Jarod smiled at the words. He knew that they were a long way from their starting point, but they also had a long way to go. But he also knew that they would work together, through thick and thin. He loved Katy, and she loved him. And they would both love this new little life that was coming into the world.

As they held each other, both couldn't help thinking how life always worked out for the best.
