Fears In the Past - Author's Notes
Hi…These are just a few notes and stuff on Fears In the Past. I was wondering if anyone found it confusion, when I re-read it for, like, the fifth time, I found it confusing too. Thanks to Angel of Death for pointing this out, and helping me to write it with the questions. I'd also like to thank you for reviewing, it was really nice of you to, and thank you for complimenting me, it make me feel appreciated. Yay!
Here are a few extra things to keep in mind when you read the story, or read it again to try and figure out my rambling that I wish was a fic:
Draco is having a very hard time distinguishing between reality and a dream world he's made up to hide himself in (ooh…the Matrix! Sorry…), in the first chapter. I've left it up to you guys to try and figure out what's real and what's not. Mwah. He's also a very confused, and is sort of falling more and more into hallucinations, and sometimes believes them to be true. Did that make any sense?
The spell that Harry performs on Draco; 'Aegri Somnia', is Latin, and would translate into 'a sick man's dreams' or 'hallucinations'. This spell completely washes away any fake thoughts or actions that would of seemed real, so Madame Pomfrey says.
Harry feels rather sorry for Draco, because of all his Gryffindor-ness. While Hermione considers it 'mothering', Ron considers Harry's attraction to boys or girls. That sounded so weird. Anyway, this is why he sort of sticks around Draco. He sort of feels as if it's his job to do so. Why? Maybe because he found Draco, or maybe because I'm a fan girl, and couldn't get it to work any other way.
After the spell, Draco's only left a few 'real' memories. Refer to Bullet Point One. Anyway, he's not as mean or nasty, as Hermione points out. This is probably because of influence from Harry, though. Ron is also probably right with 'Once a Malfoy, always a Malfoy'. You can't change a person completely, can you? Draco reverts back to calling Harry 'Potter', and is still just as sarcastic, and Draco-ish, but slightly more soft. But, as we all know, he loves Harry, really *is smacked*.
I probably didn't point this out…a side effect of the spell is mood swings, and/or deep depression. That's why Madame Pomfrey is so worried. Draco also seems to get rather normal Draco behaviour at one point, and then becomes all depressed again.
The dreams have no relevancy whatsoever. They were just fun to write, and sort of reflected that Draco still was in depression. Harry's dream? Interpret that how you like. I'm not too sure either.
I was going for 'a-very-in-touch-with-his-feelings' and slightly 'goofy-when-not-serious' Harry (though he still blushes easily), and a more depressing Draco, who has irregular mood swings, but is still quite fun to be around when he's not all doom and gloom.
Now…if I totally confused you the first time around, maybe you could try reading it again, or something, and see if that helped you at all. I hoped it did. I must now go and study for French, and think of another part for this. I'm now brain-dead after churning out another fic.
