The sound of an alarm clock goes off. The sun pours into the windows,
reflecting off the walls. Mercy lay in her bed reaching for her clock.
"Damn clock" Mercy said groggy from sleep. She stood up and went to her
closet. "Another day, great" Mercy thought to herself as she changed into
her black shirt and her dark blue jeans. She put her black lipstick on, her
eye shadow, and the rest of her make up. Mercy then smelled her mother's
bacon cooking and heard her father ruffling through the newspaper. "Mercy
come down" Lessa Crafton, her mother called "your breakfast is on the
table!" Mercy smiled "coming" she yelled back as she pulled on her dog
collar and spikes. Mercy looked at her mirror "well this is as good as it
gets as usual" She said quietly to herself. She ran down stairs putting on
her striped socks on. "Mornin" Mercy greeted her parents "about time you
got down" Jake Crafton, her father, said sarcastically "I was about to go
up and get you" He added smiling at Mercy. "It was that stupid alarm clock"
Mercy said "it rings too late" "Speaking of late, you're gonna be if you
don't get your ass out that door" Lessa said looking at the clock "chill
mom, it's only 7:30" Mercy said as she sat down. "this is good" She
remarked about her breakfast "I agree" Jake said and stood up "I've got to
go" He added and kissed Mercy's head and walked towards Lessa "I love you"
Lessa said and Jake replied "I love you too" and they kissed. Mercy, then
done with her breakfast, stood up and stuck her tongue out "come on I just
ate.ew" She said sarcastically. Jake turned around and smiled "see you
after school" he said and walked out the door. "Oh mom. I'm hanging out
with Jackie and Melissa after school, we're gonna meet up with Maria at the
mall" Mercy added quickly "they said they had a surprise for my birthday"
Lessa smiled slightly "speaking of your birthday, I thought about you
wanting to dye your hair" Lessa paused and reached into her pocket and
pulled out some money. "Just don't pick green" Mercy smiled and hugged her
mother "thanks" Mercy than looked at the clock. "7:40, time to go" Mercy
said and pulled on her converse sneakers and went out the door with her
backpack. "Bye" Mercy waved back to her mom. Lessa smiled, waved back and
closed the door. Mercy's bus finally came and as she got on, she looked
back at her house and then went into her seat as the bus door closed. On
the way to school, the bus passed by an old manor everyday. Mercy liked to
admire that one manor because she felt there was something different about
it.
