Disclaimer: I don't own Frodo or Sam. They belong to Tolkien. I'm just playing with them for a bit.

Warnings: Rather dark drabble. This is a 'what if' ficlet of what could have happened if the mission had failed and Frodo and Sam had been captured by orcs. ANGST!!!!

The first thing Sam was aware of was the cold. It surrounded him and seemed to have seeped inside, chilling him down to the very core of his being. Something was wrong, he could feel it.

The last thing he remembered was Mr. Frodo and him being in Mordor. They had been found by orcs and the ring... the ring! Mr. Frodo! His eyes snapped open and he found himself in complete darkness. They had been captured, the mission failed and now he and Mr. Frodo were God knows where. He blamed himself. He should have been more careful, should have hidden Mr. Frodo when he heard the orcs coming. But he hadn't and now Middle Earth was doomed all because of his carelessness.

Thinking back to the journey, he thought of all the times he had wanted to stop for food or rest or just to stop. If only they hadn't stopped, if only they had kept going, never stopping...would the orcs have found them then? And Mr. Frodo.. where was he?! Sam suddenly became concerned with what those barbarian orcs had done to his poor master. Why, if they had harmed one hair on his head.... ...he wouldn't be able to do anything. He was helpless, trapped in a cold, dark room with no chance to escape.

Sam moved his arms slightly and heard the rattle of chains. Bringing his legs up close to his chest, he wrapped his arms around them and rested his aching head on his knees. As he sat there in the empty darkness, Sam slowly began to give into the sinking feeling he had felt since day one until finally his mind snapped and Samwise Gamgee lost all hope.
