Disclaimer: Frodo and Sam were created by Professor Tolkien. And I am not
Tolkien. Thus I do not own them. I'm merely borrowing the hobbits for my
own purposes.
Warning: Kinda slashy. If you don't like the thought of boys liking boys, then I suggest you go elsewhere.
Author's Note: This was actually an audition for an rpg. So it's just a little ficlet. I did, however, get the part I wanted. ^_^

Sam nearly fell forward in his chair as sleep tried to overtake him. //Must stay awake...for Mr. Frodo//
Since the moment he entered Rivendell, he had been by Frodo's side. Sam had made a promise never to leave him and he didn't intend to, especially not when his Frodo needed him the most. Taking Frodo's hand in his, he gazed into the face of the hobbit he had loved forever. "Oh Mr. Frodo...if only I had the courage to tell you...the truth." A sigh escaped his lips as he felt the tears begin to well up. Ever since they had started this suicide mission, all Sam had wanted to do was grab Frodo, drag him back to the Shire and lock him away from the rest of the world. Now it was too late and he had gotten hurt. If only he had been able to protect him; then this never would have happened. A pang of guilt had been growing in his heart that threatened never to release him, just as the poison of the morgul blade would never truly leave Frodo.
It suddenly occurred to Sam that he had been unconsciously stroking the crème-colored hand he was still holding. Giving it a squeeze, he turned his gaze once again on the face he had grown to love so much. Frodo had always looked so breathtakingly beautiful when he was asleep. Surely he had to have elven blood in him, his entire being radiated with immortal splendor. As he drank in the sight before him, Sam gently reached up and caressed his master's cheek.
"Please...wake up," he prayed to himself. Leaning over Frodo's sleeping body, Sam softly kissed him on the forehead. "I'll never leave you...I promise."
