A/N: in science, we watched a video about Forest Fires! And I thought, "It'd suck to be trapped in a forest fire, eh?" thinks I, so of course a ficlet idea popped up! Then I got in trouble for "Not paying attention". Oh. The horror of it all. aah. Somebody save me. *glares*

Disclaimer: I do NOT won Spirited Away nor Forest Fires. What, you think I WANT those paper-making companies on my tail? *puts on dark cloak and glasses and creeps off*

Summery: The fears she has will destroy her someday...

Genre: uh... I dunno... not yet, at least... I know I'd LIKE to have some fluffiness! :D Maybe some action/adventure, and perhaps a bit o' angst 'n drama.

*sigh* Alas! Those are only what I'd like this to be.

Rating: Err... I have to rate this?

Third Person POV unless I mention otherwise.

Because I am for some reason unable to upload underlined, italic, or bold, then things will be accented with CAPS LOCK and three asterisks together in a sequence do you understand? Good. ***dreams*** and will be right between the asterisks, and ***

Flashbacks

*** will be in the middle of the asterisks.

ALL OF THE ABOVE applies to ALL future chapters within this story. I will only use an Author's Note to answer questions.

It choked her, burned her. Heat, such intense heat she was drowning in her own sweat. "Mommy!" she shouted, voice cracked and drowned in the roaring. She was trapped, in what had once been a hallway on the second floor. It was all around her, choking her, making her eyes water, smoke... Fire... Everywhere... 'Somebody save me,' she thought, 'please, anybody, Haku, somebody save me...'

Nobody saved her. She inched on her stomach, hacking, crying, edging toward the closest door. She tried to stand, but it was impossible. Each time she made any large or quick physical movement pain wracked her body.

'Two years,' she thought, coming to a rest, air so thick she was literally struggling just to move. 'So this is how I'll die. Where are you, Haku?'

There was a crack, and she screamed, arms darting over her head as a burning beam broke off and slammed right next to her, and there was the horrible sensation of falling, then more pain. She was dizzy, couldn't move, couldn't breathe, pain, pain...

It wouldn't stop hurting!

Finally, after what seemed like a matter of thirty minutes, she managed to muster up enough breathe and energy to scream. Not that it did any good, of course. She had never been so scared in her life, not since... Then... and she inhaled more of the charred, black smoke. Burning, burning!

Finally, out of adrenaline and reflex, she managed to roll over, and realized she had been partly smothering a small flame. More pain - in her shoulder, her leg, her ankles, her chest - like a bulldozer was driving slowly over her lungs, dumping dirt in her mouth and ears, throwing stinging ash in her eyes.

When would it stop?

Finally, she slipped into blackness.
