Chapter 1
Slipping Hope
Van, Hitomi couldn't bare to think about how her life would be like now. Could she take it? Go on as if there was no Gaia that there was no was Van no one? She tired to take it all in the fact that they were never going to be there again. But the earth was so different so perfect. Gaia is her home and she had to get back to it. Some how, some way.
Her mind often wandered now that she was on earth or mystic moon. She apologized to Yukari for being so naive and tried to explain in a way that seemed normal what happened, but it was no use.
As the days went t by she secretly wished that Sora's chant would call her back once again but she knew that wasn't going to happen. Though she joined the track team once again it wasn't the way it used to be. When she used to run there was a purpose for running, to try and escape life even though it would just be for a few seconds. Now she was no longer running from life she was trying to face it and the fact that Escaflowne was no longer a reality.
A year passed, Hitomi started to look at collage brochures but never gave up hope that some day she could return to Gaia and once again be by Vans side. She never thought about the other boys around her. She took comfort only in her pendant and she never removed it. Ever. The pendant was the one thing that connected her to Escaflowne and Van.
A year passed. Then things started changing, Yukari went away to a collage in England. That was the first major loss. Then in a nightly talk on the phone Yukari to her that her only friend, the track coach who she considered her father figure was moving to go teach in China. Gone all gone, the only person left that she cared for was her mother.
As time went by Hitomi focused more and more on getting into a collage in was her only hope for a future.
It was late Hitomi was coming home from a grueling day of collage interviews. She kept asking herself if she was really cut out for school. . . . As her mind wandered she walked through the dark empty alleyways. Then a blur of a moment it happened a man swept up from the shadows and held her and knife point. She began to lose conscious when her pendant began to glow a blinding wave of light came over them then as soon as it had came darkness.
