"Legolas! Why didn't anyone wake me last night?" Aragorn grumbled.
"Well…" Legolas began to smile, "humans tend to need much rest…"
Aragorn glared at the Elf. Suddenly Legolas' eyes became serious. Aragorn followed his friends gaze. He sighed, remembering his promise.
Boromir glanced alveolus, silently thanking him for reminding Aragorn. He did not wish to nag the Ranger. Or King, Boromir reflected.
But instead of making his way to Pippin, the man slipped over to Merry. Aragorn motioned to the forest and Merry followed.
"I know what information you seek. But I am bound by my word," Merry whispered.
Aragorn sighed.
"But need to know. So I will break my word."
I like this one, Aragorn thought.
"It started when Pippin was a toddler. His da never did like young ones much. Too many questions. But Pippin was a curious one. So he asked questions. At first it t'was fine. But Pip would not let it go. He asked moe and more. Simply got on his da's nerves."
Aragorn nodded, remembering his own memories. But Merry continued.
"His father got mad at him, scared him. Pip wouldn't talk. Too afraid. We finally got him talking. And, well…" merry sighed.
Aragorn nodded. "I understand. I knew someone like that. Long ago…"
Merry shot him a curious look. He opened his mouth as if to speak, but he was cut off. Legolas' cry ran through the air. "Aragorn!"
Aragorn rushed through the forest, instinctively drawing his sword. Merry followed.
