Chapter 2 of The life of Private Mendosa.
Keyes: And that's what you saw?
Mendosa: Yes Captain.
(Keyes leans back into his chair and sighs deeply.)
Keyes: ........ Ok....now let's not jump to conclusions. Just because a marine found the helmet, it doesn't mean the the master chief is dead
Mendosa: OK Captain.
Keyes: Wait a minute......Where is the helmet now?
Mendosa: It went to research Captain.
(Keyes leans over to the microphone.)
Keyes: Keyes to research send the helmet of the master chief the bridge on the double!
(Seconds later a man runs in with the helmet in his hands.)
Man: Here you go Captain.
(Keyes examines the back of the helmet.)
Keyes: OH THANK GOD!!!
(Keyes pulls out a disc from the helmet and places it into the computer.)
Keyes: Hello Cortana.
Cortana: My God it's so good to see a friendly face!
Keyes: We need to know what happened to the Master Chief.
Cortana: He didn't die if that's what you're thinking.
Mendosa: .....then what happened?
Cortana: (Sighs) It happened yesterday. The Chief and I were sent out to investigate any covenant activity. We were with Fire Team
Mars at the time. We reached a field ful of rocks and bolders.
At first we were going to set up camp, but then something weird happened. There was a huge group of Covenant running
towards us. We were going to shoot them but they were to close. They then ran passed us. Not bothering to shoot or anything. They just ran screeming and yelling. All of us were
amazed about what we had just seen...... Then it happened.
Out of nowhere came these.... these.... things.
Keyes: Was it the flood?
Cortana: NO!
(A huge silence fell into the room.)
Keyes: ....... Carry on Cortana
Cortana: These things where reptile like. They had yellow skin, eyes
like fire, a tail as sharp as a sword and some weird markings
on their chest. There must have been 10 of them. Immediately they charged at us. We opened fire at them ,but it was useless. They cut down brave men where they stood. They sliced
men with their tails. One ran towards the Chief. Its eyes started to glow reder and reder. The Chief continued to fire at the creature. Then. Within a fraction of a second the creature moved faster then I could see. The Master Cheif was
struck only just on the helmet. The last thing I shouted to him was run....... and that's what happened.
(The room goes quiet again. Men look at each other in fear, wondering what to do. Keyes sits in his chair.)
Keyes: Alright! Whatever this creature is, it has chosen wrong to mess with us. We will not take this lying down! I want every single marine of this ship out there looking for The Master Chief. Get every vehicle ready for combat. We cannot afford to lose the Master Cheif.
