Reunion

He waits for Meryl's answer.  A second, a million years, the same.

"I do."  Immortal time accelerates.

A million—

—seconds.  

"I'm pregnant," she says, eyes shining.

—minutes.  

His son's first steps, first words.

—hours.  

Her last words, her stone's silent promise.

—days.  

His descendants recapture the stars.  He wanders among them, again a legend, searching.

—years. 

At last, in a city of eternal metal and stained glass, her face.  Her. 

"Do you know me?" he asks.

The short dark-haired girl approaches, blinks gray eyes. 

"Yes.  I don't know how, but…"

A million years, a second, the same.    

"I do."
