"Mother, I have been through worse than this," Clay said, "You're making this to be worse than it actually is."
Porter stared at her son, "Don't lie to your mother, Clayton. I've talked with the doctors and they have told me how serious your injuries were."
"Mother -"
"Clayton, I almost lost you this time," she interrupted him, "Please don't lie to me by trying to tell me that it wasn't as bad as the doctors have made it out to be."
"But you didn't lose me, mother," he replied, "And you're not going to."
"Not this time," Porter said, "Thank God, but really, Clayton, you may not be so lucky next time. Perhaps it was time you considered a change in careers?"
"Mother, you cannot possibly be serious!"
"I am very serious," she replied, "Clayton, I know that you love your work in the CIA but, son, I have already lost your father to it. I am not prepared to lose my only son as well."
"Oh, mother," Clay said, he kissed her hand in his own. Before either could speak again, someone knocked on the room's door. "Come in."
Harm poked his head into the doorway, "I hope I'm not intruding."
"Of course not, Commander Rabb."
"Come on in, Harm."
Porter rose from her chair to take the bouquet of flowers that Harm carried. "These are lovely!" She set them on a nearby table.
"Just a gift from everyone at JAG, Mrs. Webb," Harm replied.
Clay spoke, "Mother, would you excuse us please?"
His mother nodded, leaned over to kiss her son much to his chagrin, "I'll go have some lunch. I'll be back later this afternoon, Clayton."
"Thank you, Mrs. Webb," Harm said as she exited the room. He waited until the door was closed to turn to Clay; "You wanted to see me?"
"Yeah sit down, Rabb," Clay's voice took a don't argue with me tone to it and he waited until Harm was seated in the chair his mother had been in only moments before. "Have you told Mac your feelings for her yet?"
The smile vanished from Harm's face; "I don't think its any business of yours, Webb, whether or not I've talked to Mac about my feelings for her."
"I'm making it my business after she saved my life in Paraguay," Clay replied. "Rabb, she loves you and if you can't see that then you are as oblivious as they come!"
"Wait a minute - she told you that she loves me?"
Clay rolled his eyes, "No, Rabb, she doesn't have to! It's obvious to anyone who watches you two that you love each - obvious that is to everyone but the both of you."
"Do you have a point, Webb?" Harm asked.
"Yeah, I do," Clay said, sitting up straighter in his bed, "Look, Rabb, if you don't tell Sarah how you feel before I get out of this place, then I am going to go after her myself. She's someone very special and if you don't see that, Harm, then you are both oblivious and a blind fool. She won't wait on you forever you know."
When Harm left a few minutes later, Clay was fairly certain he was going to finally talk to Mac about his feelings for her, and he was fairly certain he knew what Mac's response would be.
Sometime during their ordeal in Paraguay Sarah MacKenzie had won both Clay's heart and his love, so much so he risked complete embarrassment to tell the man she was in love with that he'd better make his move or Clay would do it himself. He had spoken the truth - Sarah was a very special woman, one that he only wanted to see her have some happiness in her life.
If it took giving Rabb a clue so be it...
Clay sighed, "Goodbye, Sarah..."
