"Anakin," Padme said, her deep brown eyes pleading. "Anakin, why?"
"That name no longer holds any importance to me," The tall man said, ice-blue eyes flashing. "My name is Vader."
"I don't care what you call yourself." Padme looked deep into her husband's eyes, searching for the love she new he still had for her. "You'll always be Anakin Skywalker, and I will always love you."
"I don't want your love," The man spat.
"I don't care. I love you, and I know you still love me."
"Silence, woman!" shouted the man. "I have no feelings for you anymore! Your name means nothing to me!"
"That's a lie," Padme said, softly. "You wish it were true, you tell yourself that it is, but it's not. I know you, Ani. You still love me, though you deny it again and again."
"That's enough!" roared the man. He reached into the dark side of the Force, drawing forth waves of death and pumping them into the trembling woman in front of him. She fell to her knees, her eyes watering from the intense pain.
She looked up at the face of her murderer. The image swam before her.
"I'll always love you, Ani, no matter how many people you kill." The man just looked at her.
She drew one last breath. "Many things will change, Ani, but my caring for you will remain." She lay back, silently, and moved no more.
The man turned to return to his master, but when he reached the door, he looked back. The woman was beautiful, even in her death. He could feel her love reaching him through the Force. He felt a small pang of shock and grief, remembering the first time she had said those last words, when he was just a small boy, but quickly shook it off, walking out the door, leaving the body of the only woman he had ever loved to forever rest in that room, having rid himself of the only one keeping him from his destiny.
