SUMMARY: Chakotay and B'Elanna's unborn daughter expresses her
dislike for Harry Kim's musical talent.
Voyager Talent Night.
B'Elanna shifts uncomfortably in my arms as Ensign Kim performs. It's not the first time this evening that she's been distracted by the movements of the baby.
"She's awake, Chakotay," my wife whispers. It seems that Harry's clarinet has disrupted our daughter's sleep. B'Elanna strokes her stomach, trying to calm the tiny girl inside. My hand covers hers, together moving in a circle.
Butterfly kicks flutter beneath our fingers. I smile and I know she does, too. We've treasured many moments like these since the beginning of her pregnancy.
Harry plays on and still our little girl is kicking relentlessly in protest.
When finally the piece ends, the crowd applauds and we join in politely. When we return our hands, the kicking has stopped.
B'Elanna and I laugh. We've never been fond of Mr. Kim's musical tastes. Apparently our daughter isn't, either.
