Distorted Reality
Author's Note: I do not own Final Fantasy X, Squaresoft, or anything else along those lines. Now that's out of the way, I can explain a bit about this fic. It's basically set after the events of Final Fantasy X, and suggests what could happen after that very last scene.
Chapter 1
The calm waters gently carried the still body of the youth, almost toying with him as they slowly pushed him from side to side. The figure remained still, not opening his eyes. He feared that it would lead to the final stage of his departure, his final step from Spira into the unknown. And yet he knew he couldn't just stay here forever. He forced his eyes open.
'I'm.alive?'
The last word echoed in his head, and he glanced around in sudden shock. He was a long way underwater, but looking up, he could see the sun sparkling on the surface, sending gentle rays of light onto his smiling face. A name reached his lips, and he whispered it into the waves.
"Yuna."
With a surge of energy, he turned and pushed himself upwards. He felt the pressure of the water pushing back, but nothing was going to stop him. He knew that if he could just reach the surface, she would be there. Waiting for him. He reached out a gloved hand, almost imagining he could see her hand reaching down to him, but he grasped nothing but the air as he exploded through the surface. Water splashed out everywhere, as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes to shield them from the sudden burst of light. But it was only a momentary pause, as his eyes shot open and he took in the scene around him.
A short way off, there was a beach of golden sand that stretched as far as he could see. The land rose out of the sea quite high on either side of the main section of the beach, which was crowded by quite a group of people knocking a ball between each other. The young man could hardly believe his eyes. "Besaid!?" he gasped, turning in the water to gaze out across the sea. It was just like the first time he had arrived here, after falling off the Al Bhed ship. Identical in almost every detail, the same beautiful azure water, the same clear sky, the same in every way. Which meant that in theory.
"Ouch!" he yelped in surprise as the ball hit him on the back of the head. He didn't know why he was surprised. It had happened before. He turned himself round, and sure enough, there was a blitzball floating around in the water. He picked it up, and looked to the beach where a figure was stood looking out at him.
"Hey! You okay!?" yelled out the man on the beach. An instantly recognisable accent even from this distance, and one that he had been sure he would never hear again.
"Wakka!!" yelled Tidus, swimming towards the beach.
