THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE
Grissom looked at Nick with curiousity. The younger CSI had
been unusually cheerful while they were at their latest crime scene and still
now, while doing his paperwork, he had a huge grin plastered on his face. It
was too much for Grissom. He had to ask, "Why are you so happy?"
Nick looked up with the same smile he had on since he came in for work, "Cuz there's absolutely nothing to be upset about. Smiling
does the body good, Grissom." He gave his supervisor a point of the finger
before going back to his files.
"Nick, are you alright?" Grissom asked with concern.
Nick looked up again and was silent for a moment before putting down his pen
and sighing, as if getting ready to let Grissom in on a big secret.
"Grissom, I'm better than alright."
"Why?"
"I'm in love." At Grissom's look of skepticism, Nick chuckled unashamedly,
"I know, I know, I have a bad track record but this time, I think it's for
real."
"Really? Well, congratulations."
Nick continued, acting as if he didn't believe in the
sincerity of Grissom's offer of congratulations, "It's an amazing feeling,
Griss. It's unbelievable. I mean, when you find that
someone." He shook his head with a smile, "When she's around, no one
else exists in your world. It's just you and her. It
really takes somebody special to make you feel that way." He nodded and
headed out the door in a love-filled daze.
Grissom stared after Nick and shook his head in bewilderment just as Catherine
entered the room. "What's wrong?" She noticed the look of disbelief
on his face.
"Nick's in love."
"Well that's nice."
"I think a little too much in love though."
"What do you mean?"
"He just gave me a lecture on what love is supposed to be like. Something
about when that special someone is around, only you and that person
exist..." Grissom shook his head again.
"What's wrong with that?"
"You believe in that stuff?"
"It's called love, Gil. You can't *not* believe
it when you actually experience it." She patted him on the shoulder and
smiled, "I'm heading home, I'll see you
tomorrow."
"Yeah, bye." He watched her leave the room
and was getting ready to leave himself when a voice startled him out of his
reverie.
"Did you ask Nick who his new girlfriend is?"
Grissom jumped a good foot or so from his seat at the sound of the voice behind
him. He turned around, surprised to find Greg at the sink, pouring himself some
coffee, "When did you come in here?"
"Uh...just now? When Catherine was leaving?"
Greg answered, looking at Grissom oddly until he realized why Grissom had not
seen him come in. "Guess you have no excuse to not believe
Nick now, huh?"
"What are you talking about, Greg?"
"When you're in love, only you and that special someone
exist. And I am obviously not that special someone for
you. But Catherine..." Greg chuckled and hurried out of the room before
Grissom could yell at him.
*The End*
