A/N: I didn't understand this poem when I wrote it and I still don't. However, it was vaguely inspired by Vash, so. . . *shrug* It kind of all started with the "lost July" phrase and then I was utterly, totally lost.
"Shallow Sleep"
I sleep a shallow sleep
in this land of a lost July,
breaking blood-stained sins
and looking to the sky.
Down falls the rain
like stones thrown to the earth -
droplets that cause pain,
whatever pain is worth.
I dream a sweet-found dream,
of love and peace that were lost;
a phantom evolution
for which I pay the cost.
Like twisting ivy filigree,
a sinuous invader of my life -
this is my killer, my widowmaker,
the cause of all my strife.
