She loved listening to the rain. It was a sound, when she was younger soothed away her troubles. Now she saw it as romantic. Lying in a lover arms listening to the light rain on the window pane. She could see the stars clearly in the sky. She wished upon them to take away her troubles from today. As if it was going to happen, but if she could not wish she could not do anything.
He appeared home late that night. His shift had over run by two hours due to a MVA in the tunnel. They had been swamped and short a doctor. He felt guilty and stayed behind. She would understand wouldn't she.
He walked through the living room and stood leaning against the door frame. There she lay, her legs tangled in the white cotton sheets. He could see her face all contorted in frustration. She had a bad day, he knew that from looking at her face. He would love to do anything to take away her hurt and pain but would she let him.
She moved under the sheet again. The sheet tangling farther under her light body. He could see the curve of her calf sneak out from under the cover. A smile started to creep across his face. God she was beautiful. What is more, she was his. The sheet moved farther up her leg exposing more of her leg as she moved furiously. She was having another nightmare. How could he stop them from happening?
He stripped down to his boxers and climbed into bed beside her. He drew her body into his strong arms. Her motions calmed a little but she fought against him. The white cotton of her tank top exposing the top of her breasts. He held her tight, soothing her. Whispering in her ear. "I'm here, it's okay." He kissed the top of her head in hope that she would open her eyes and awaken from the nightmare she was suffering.
Instead his words and kiss had soothed her in another way. Instead of waking, her body relaxed and her breathing went back into a normal pattern. She had fallen back into a deep sleep. He smiled, drawing her closer. "I love you." He said kissing her head again before joining her in a deep slumber.
And there they stayed all night long under the white cotton sheet.
