Something to Believe In
by Starbrigid
Who are you?
What do you believe in?
Would you pray for a better tomorrow
Or die for a worse one?
What do you believe in now?
I know what I believe in
Nothing.
It all comes down to nothing.
You can pretend
But it won't be true.
But I could believe in you,
And so it burns.
Burns in the fires we start
Can you imagine them there?
Shining, illuminating, consuming
In a fire of light and love?
All for love.
So I come to you
Fires burning in my eyes.
Believing in nothing
With no need to believe.
But maybe
I could come to believe in you.
And you might betray me
And never care
But you'll still be mine
It's the only way you'll see
Just who and what you are.
A killer like me
MY fire.
Crawl away from me
If you must.
I will twist you
Make you into what I wish.
And then I will burn
(only for you)
Because this isn't what I wanted
Isn't what I wanted for myself at all.
All I have ever wanted is-
What do you believe in?
What do you pray for?
The other?
Or do YOU pray at all?
I might have prayed
For something to believe in
If I had known how...
No,
God would never
Be that merciful anyway...
And so
With the truth shining
And the beat pounding in my ears
And my darkness
Growing all the clearer
I'll take your love
Away from you.
I'll take your smile
From your lips
The dead can't smile.
(Keep on dreaming...)
Because, in the end, you know what?
I've found something to believe in, after all.
ME.
