Quistis had been watching Squall from her window for some time now. He hadn't moved much since he sat down in the shade of the tree, but it didn't matter to her. She had told him she loved him almost a day ago, and had been avoiding him since, afraid of his reaction. She knew that was stupid, but couldn't help it.
She looked down at the tree to see him again, but to her shock, he was gone. She sighed, and began to look for something interesting outside, but couldn't find anything now that Squall was gone. Squall had been her favorite student while she was an instructor, even though she was only one year his senior. She had been totally devoted to a certain future at Garden, unlike him. Anytime anyone asked him what he'd be doing in 5 years, he said nothing. But he usually didn't have much to say in the first place.
Giving up on the window, Quistis sat down in a chair not too far from it. She was shaking, slightly and didn't know why. Then she saw why: the door was open. She had been sure she had closed it, for this room was one of the only ones with a heater. She closed the door, and turned around, ending up face-to-face with Squall.
"Squall? What..." she began, but couldn't finish her sentence, because he was kissing her. After getting over the shock of what was happening, she kissed him back.
"You've been avoiding me, otherwise I'd have done this sooner." he whispered, and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She smiled up at him.
"I was avoiding you because I was afraid you wouldn't do that." She said, and he smirked.
"That explains it." he said, and pulled her closer. "Quisty...I love you too." he whispered, and kissed her again. She felt like she could grow wings and fly away, happier than she had been in years.
"What would I do without you?" she asked quietly, and felt him kissing her again.
