The golden sun poked through the mystical trees of the Kokiri Forest. The rays scrambled to meet the dew-covered grass blowing gracefully in the light morning breeze. The sun reached the bed that a young boy named Link lay in, waking him from his slumber.

"What happened? Was it all a dream? Did I really save Hyrule?"

A young girl called out, breaking the silence of dawn. "Link! Come down here!"

Link drowsily got out of bed and slipped on his boots. He left his treehouse and climbed down the ladder to find Saria waiting for him.

"Link, the Deku Tree has summoned you! It's such a great honor!" Saria turned to leave, but she stopped. Not looking at him, she added softly, "You deserve the honor, after what you did." Saria ran off, her green hair eventually blending into the forestry around them.

Link had no idea what she meant. Was his Hyrule rescue not a dream, but a reality? It couldn't be, he thought. Navi was nowhere to be found. He decided to make his way to the Deku Tree to see what he wanted.

On his way he ran into Mido. "You can't pass through here! What do you think you're doing?!" Mido yelled at Link.

Link had no time for this. He quickly sidestepped around Mido and ran through the narrow pathway to the sacred Deku Meadow.

When he had gotten there, he saw a fairy floating around the Deku Tree. It seemed familiar.

"Link! Long time no see!" Navi yelled in her usual hyperactive, peppy, annoying voice. It had to be her, Link thought. "Yeah Link, don't you remember? All the fighting, and the sages, and-"

"Zelda." was the only thing Link said.

The Deku Tree spoke at last. "Thou art courageous, Link. You, indeed, hath saved Hyrule, for now. Thy memory has not been erased, like the other sages."

"You mean. Zelda remembers?" Link ran out of the meadow, ignoring Navi's "HEY!" cries, Mido's dazed glare, and the other Kokiri. He only wanted to meet Zelda.

In the shadow of the Forest Temple, Saria sat, sobbing silently. Her tears showered the grass at her feet. "He cares for Zelda. I was foolish to think he'd-" she muttered to herself between sobs. "It was the same as when he rescued me from here 7 years from now." She got up, wiping her eyes and cheeks. "I'll catch up to him and say goodbye. I know he won't be coming back." she ran out of the Lost Woods, not forgetting how to get out.

Link got across the bridge at the entrance to the forest when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around to see Saria, standing there. "Saria, I-"

"I know." Saria cut him off. "You're leaving for Zelda, aren't you?" Link looked down at his feet. "I just wanted you to stay for a while, like old times." She moved closer to him. "Do you remember the times we watched the sunset? The times we just felt the forest air as we talked about our dreams? Would you please stay? Just for a day?"

"I can't, Saria. I need to find Zelda and tell her that-" Link left it at that as he turned and ran out of the forest.

"Link." Saria whispered. "Take me with you, Link. Please."
