"I love you," she says trying to hold back the tears.

"No you don't but thanks for saying it," he says looking at her with sincerity, actually believing that she doesn't.

"Now get out of here," he says.

She starts to head up the stairs, then stops, "Spike…" She walks back over to him. He looks at her and sees her crying. She looks at him, really looks at him. She reaches her hand up to his face. This is all happening as the building is starting to crumble. As she puts her hand on his cheek, she steps really close to him, like inches away. He puts his hand on her face, almost mimicking her. They both look at each other, knowing this will be the last time they will ever be together. They come together with one final kiss. Spike can feel that she really does love him and she doesn't want to let him go but she understands that he must do it, for he is her protector. Buffy feels his love, greatly for her. She can feel that he doesn't want to leave her alone, but he must. She also feels that he will always be with her no matter what comes, if not physically then mentally and spiritually.

As they break the kiss, they look at each other. Spike stares at her then gives her his trademark grin but with sadden eyes as trying to make the mood lighter. He goes, "Go on luv, get out of here. Don't want you getting hurt now do we?" Then on a more serious tone as tears start to role his cheeks, "Buffy, luv, run, get out of here. I love you and will always be with you. Now get out of here, I have to do my job."

Buffy is quietly sobbing next to him but is staring up into his eyes as he is talking. She quickly closes the distance between them and delivers him one last kiss. She pulls back with one last glance and starts to run up the stairs. She stops suddenly and looks at Spike and says, "I love you, I really do." Spike looks at her and goes, "I love you too. Goodbye Buffy." One last stolen look and she is gone.

Spike gazes at the destruction in front of him and smiles wickedly, "I want to see how it ends," he says.
