~Disclaimer~ Oh, I don't own The Ring. Ooooooh. That'd be too creepy, I wouldn't want to. Oooooooo..

~Author's Note~ Okay, so we all know that Samara just wanted everyone to see her tape. Right? Well what if she didn't? What if there was something else she wanted and copying the tape only gave you extra time? That's what this is about. Please, please, pleaaaaaase tell me if it sucks. I have no idea what I'm doing but I hope it's alright.

"Sure.."

She gasped. "No! Really! Jesus Christ, don't tell me you think it's nothing!" the woman lifted up the black and white newspaper in protest, tracing the headline with her finger.

He read it over again out loud. "Mother and son killed, found in home, yeah, that has nothing to do with it."

She practically leapt out of her seat. "Nothing to DO WITH IT!!! Jason, that makes FIFTEEN PEOPLE killed in the same way! There's something going on here!"

He cocked an eyebrow. "Something like what? Like ghosts?"

Her eyes gleamed in excitement. "Oh, not ghosts..A ghost..a single ghost."

He couldn't help but laugh at her expression, pushing the papers off the table as he did. Her excitement turned to anger as she realised that she couldn't convince him of her ideas. "I really think I'm right this time, I mean,..how else could this've been done? No medical wounds, scratches, knife wounds, any trace of a struggle...in all the cases it looks as if their hearts just STOPPED. I don't think a regular human killer could have done that, I mean seriously, Jason." And then more quietly. "It looks as if they all got.got..scared to death."

He sighed. "Did you ever think for once that maybe there's a sickness going around? They haven't ruled that out yet have they?"

She blinked and closed her eyes halfway, giving him the evilest look she could conjure before she stomped out of the room in fury.

Jason shrugged and turned back to his computer. His desk a mess of obituaries and casualty reports of what he thought to be a small scale epidemic that seemed to be rapidly spreading. He shuffled some of the papers away from his keyboard and dug some notebooks away to find the mouse.

A man walked up to his side, tilting his head to the side as he read the paper the woman had been so freaked out by. "Mother and son? That's very tragic."

Jason nodded his head. "Yeah, it is. "he tilted his head towards the doorway. "Karen just freaked out and left. She thinks the killings are some kind of ghost or something." He laughed. "She's pretty crazy, huh?"

The man shrugged. "Well, it makes more sense then everything else the police have been thinking up. It's all turned very random now, you know? Their last idea had something to do with a restaurant and a three eyed parrot."

Jason laughed deeply. "Yeah Mike, I know. But I also know ghosts aren't real, right? It's insane. I just think all this has gotten people shook up. They'll think of anything and everything."

Mike shrugged again. "Well, maybe, maybe not, who knows? I don't. I just hope Karen doesn't get herself into anything she shouldn't, ." he paused. "She can get hurt."

"I'm worried too, but she can take care of herself. She may be wrong upstairs but she's smart enough to know not to do anything stupid."

~Author's Note~ Yeah, I know it's short, but I just needed to get some first time character development in. That sounded professional. Whoa. I never do that. Gonna have to watch myself before I start sounding smart!!! That'd BE SCARY!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!
