It was Christmas Day at Hogwarts, and Harry had just woken up. He checked the time on his new watch, which Sirius had given him. It was 6:30 a.m. He looked down at the pile of presents at the foot of his bed. He decided to wake Ron up, so he walked over and shook him awake, "Ron, wake up." Said Harry. Ron woke up looking sick. "Oy, I don't feel so good, but hey there are presents!" Ron said. Just then Hermione walked into the room. "Merry Christmas!" Hermione said. She smiled at Harry then gave a quick smile to Ron. Ron and Hermione had gone out since October and they had broken up just three weeks ago. It didn't work out for them so they just went back to being friends.
Harry started unwrapping his presents. He got a whole bunch of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans from Hagrid, a sweater from Mrs. Weasley, a book from Hermione, and Chocolate Frogs from Ron.
But Harry wasn't really in presents right now. He was looking at Hermione. Ever since he came back to Hogwarts, he had noticed Hermione in another way. He truly loved her. But he didn't tell Hermione that. And he was most disappointed when he found out Ron and Hermione were going out, even though he didn't say anything. Then when they broke up, he felt he was being given another chance. He hadn't told her his feelings yet, but he knew he'd do it soon.
"Harry?" "Harry?" said Hermione. "What?" Said Harry coming back to earth. "Ron isn't feeling good, he is going to the hospital wing, do you want to come?" she asked. "Sure" Harry said.
After they took Ron to the hospital wing and left (Madam Pomfrey shooed them out saying Ron needed rest), they decided to go eat breakfast in the Great Hall. After Harry and Hermione had finished eating, Harry asked, "do you want to go for a walk around the lake?" "I'd love to," said Hermione. So they walked out across the snow covered ground towards the lake. "It is really horrible that Ron has to be sick on Christmas Day, you know," Hermione said. "Yeah, I know," said Harry. As Hermione walked ahead of Harry, Harry started to make a snowball. Then he threw it at Hermione. She turned around and saw him standing there with a huge smile on his face with another snowball ready to take aim. But when he threw it, she ducked out of the way this time. Then she bent down and made a snowball of her own and threw it at Harry hitting him in the shoulder. Soon they were throwing them at each other, laughing hysterically. Then Harry ran towards her and they both to the ground laughing. Harry then looked into Hermione's deep, brown eyes, as she looked into Harry's bright, green eyes. Then Harry took a deep breath and said "Hermione, I wanted to tell you this for a long time, but I.I-" "what Harry?" She asked. "I love you." Said Harry, feeling his face burning with humiliation. She looked startled for a moment, then her face broke into a wide smile. "Oh, I have been waiting for you to say that for the longest time." Said Hermione. Harry smiled and pulled her into a long, passionate kiss. Then Harry and Hermione got up off the ground. Smiling and holding hands, they walked back to the castle.
