Song of Haldir as he dies at Helm's Deep (and I know he doesn't die in the books, I just wanted to write a dying Elf song and did not know to whom I should assign it)
words in parentheses () after the main line are a woman's voice...just a woman, idk who :P
For many long years I have walked under Lorien's eaves. (And I have walked with you)
And for all of my life I've looked up at the mallyrns' sweet leaves. (I have seen them too)
But now I must leave, leave this place where I've been, (Please do not leave me here)
though there are so many places that I have never seen. (I need you, Haldir)
And now I must go, never having felt love for a maid. (Oh, but I have loved you)
To my brothers I say- I love you and have faith in the Lady. (I shall make sure they do)
To the Lady I say- I am sorry I must leave your wood. (you can't go, she needs you!)
I wish to keep it safe, if only, if only I still could.
Your safety I would keep, and stay here with my kin. (Haldir, you may!)
But now I must die, never to return again. (No, you're breaking my heart)
So here now I am, felled by a filthy Orc's cruel stroke. (I shall kill him for you.)
I know that I am dying, and so for me there is no hope. (There is always some hope!)
Now I see a bright light growing larger and larger ahead. (Leave it there, run away!)
My friend Aragorn cradles me, and then I am dead.
