Disclaimer:  Nothing new here, I still don't own Transformers.  It's quite sad really….

This fic was inspired by "Aerials" by, you guessed it, System of a Down.

Aerials

Skyfire trudged through the desert, his eyes downcast as he followed the river's side closely. How long he had been walking he did not care. It had been awhile though; the setting sun was proof of that. It seemed like ages since he had last seen the sun and he found himself fascinated with it. Especially the way the dying light made everything it touched look aflame, giving his normally pale coloring a fiery glow at the edges. Fire red, red like…

No, not now! I came here to get away from him and the others. Away from the fighting, away from the pain…

Skyfire felt the pain well up once again deep within his spark and sighed wearily. You will haunt me till the end of time, won't you? If only…

The rumble of the upcoming waterfall snapped Skyfire out of his reverie and into alertness. After a fashion he reached the waterfall and stood at the cliff's jagged edge, gazing down into the depths of the water. So much hidden in those depths. So much darkness, so many secrets.

Then the words of a friend came to him, "Don't think, just fly." Just fly. How he had forgotten the joy of it. He smiled, and without another thought he stepped off the ledge and transformed as he fell.

It was not until the last minute that he pulled up, the cool water splashing against his hull as he skimmed its surface before shooting up sharply several hundred feet and then leveling out. Banking like that wasn't the wisest decision, not when he could have stalled himself out. But the rush of air was too exhilarating for Skyfire to resist.

He had lost so much, but as he flew it mo longer mattered. He felt too alive to be burdened down with pain.

Skyfire flew away and did not turn back.
