How Do You Heal A Broken Heart?
~interlude~
Rating: PG-13
(a rather upset Woody confronts the author and some of her friends)
"Now wait just a minute here. When did I become a jerk?"
When you left Jordan without talking to her. I tried to talk you out of it, but noooooooo. You had to do it your way.
"But I tried to talk to her. She knew about the reference call and. . ."
And nothing. You didn't tell her you wanted to take the job.
"But the lunch conversation. And that night. . ."
But you left. Without a word and didn't even leave a note in her apartment.
bring
"What's that?"
It's my instant message box. Hang on. Oh, it's my friend Andrea. She wants to talk to you.
"Is it going to be like my day in the chapter you just finished?"
I'm going to let her talk to you and we'll see. . .
Andrea: What the hell were you thinking?
"I don't know. I. . . I guess I wasn't."
Andrea: Bright one we've got here, huh Beth?
Yep.
Andrea: I'd say you weren't thinking. After everything you'd been through you didn't think Jordan could be honest with you about how she felt?
"I didn't want to hurt her and I knew it would."
Andrea: And running out on her didn't hurt her?
"I guess I thought that. . . bring. . .
"Great. Who's that?"
Oh, it's another friend Beth J. She wants to talk too.
"Wonderful."
Beth J.: What exactly were you thinking?
Andrea: We've already established that he wasn't.
Right. No matter how I tried to argue with him he insisted.
"I. . ."
Woody, I don't think there's much hope for you ~ you're up against three women and, well, I don't think this is gonna be pretty.
"What has today?"
Andrea: I'm still not clear on why you didn't even want to talk to Jordan.
Beth J.: Yeah. It couldn't be that hard. After everything she overcame to let you into her life.
I tried to tell him, but he's being stubborn. So let's go, Farm Boy ~ tell us why.
"Wait a minute, when did Jordan jump in here?"
Oh, you didn't know? She drives my bus sometimes.
"What. . .?"
Never mind. Let's hear it. Detective Hoyt, will you please explain why you felt the need to abandon the love of your life for money?
Andrea: Um, Beth? Wrong show.
Beth J.: Huh? I didn't say anything.
Andrea: No, I meant Beth the author.
Beth J.: Oh, ok. Back to the question. But she's right, Beth. That did sound a little Claire-ish.
Oh, right. Sorry. I'll just. . .
"Who's Claire?"
She was a D.A. on "Law & Order" ~ another TV show. She sometimes takes the wheel ~ as long as it's not late at night in New York. She has issues with that.
"I'm confused."
Beth J. and Andrea: Yeah. We know!
Ok. Woody, what the hell were you thinking?
"I've told you. I was afraid."
Beth J.: I can't believe that you have so little faith in Jordan to think that she'd tell you not to go!
"But what if she. . ."
Andrea: You know what I think?
"Um, no. But I get the feeling I'm going to."
Andrea: I think that if you'd just talked with her you could have left on much better terms. Like Garret said today. . .
Um, Andrea, he didn't hear that part. Garret had hung up on him by then.
Andrea: Oh yeah. Sorry.
"So what was Garret saying today after he hung up on me?"
Andrea: He said that he's known Jordan long enough to know that she would have been supportive. Probably would have even driven you to the airport. But we'll never know now. Since you decided to be an asshole.
'You guys don't think she would have been upset?"
Beth J.: Yeah, I think she would have been upset, but she wouldn't have stood in your way.
Andrea: Yeah. I mean her dad worked in the Boston P.D. for years and she knows all about how it's sot of an old boys' club.
But that didn't mean that you wouldn't have eventually moved up.
Beth J.: I mean, yeah. Maybe you would have. Or maybe Jordan would have pointed out something that I think is kind of obvious.
"What's that?"
Andrea: Yeah, what are you thinking?
Beth J.: That if the Sunset Division is as elite as you want to think, if you worked there for a year or two, you shouldn't have a problem moving back with a promotion.
Andrea: Good point.
"Yeah, ok. But it doesn't change what's happened already. There's no way to undo it. Unless. . ."
Forget it Farm Boy. You made your bed. Now you get to lie in it. ALONE!
"But how's it going to work out?"
I don't know. Jordan hasn't told me what she wants me to do about you yet. Just go cool your jets for a while. Oh, and enjoy San Quivera and the dotted line.
"Oh yes. I forgot to tell you how much I loved that twist. Not."
Hey, I do have some control over my stories, no matter what you might think. Now. . .
"I'm going. I'm going. I'm sure I'll be talking to you all too soon."
Bye. Ok girls, I think he's gone.
Andrea: Good. I can't believe how clueless he was about everything.
Beth J.: Yeah. And after everything he went through to get through to Jordan.
Maybe he took one too many hits to the head with a garbage can. Well, ladies ~ thanks for your help.
Andrea: Do you think we talked some sense into him?
Beth J.: Well, we can always hope.
And if not, there's always your stuff "other Beth." Talk to y'all later!
