I'm Here
A/N: A short little vignette about Trinity and Neo, set right at the end of the first movie, after their "fade-to-black" kiss. Yes, I know. Sickeningly overdone. Just bear with me.
Trinity looked down at Neo. She had just poured out her soul to this man. She had just kissed him. And she didn't want to move, or do anything but just stay there.
Unfortunately, Morpheus and Tank chose that moment to come over, and Trinity pulled herself off of Neo's chair. She looked at the captain and operator who were staring at her and Neo incredulously, and had to allow herself a smile.
Morpheus looked at Trinity, and then back at Neo. The corners of his mouth twitched involuntarily before he turned his attention back to Neo. "I have been searching for you for my entire life, Neo. To have finally found you... well... this is amazing."
Tank burst in. "Neo, that was awesome! How did you just come back to life? And then you just... you just..."
Neo grinned weakly and sat up, rising out of the chair. Within a second of standing up, his legs collapsed underneath him.
Morpheus gave Trinity a look. "Trinity, will you help Neo to his room?" Resisting the urge to give Morpheus a good kick, Trinity allowed Neo to rest his arms on her shoulders so that he could lean on her.
It seemed like forever, but they finally made it to Neo's quarters. Trinity helped Neo onto the bed, but he sat up, making no motion to lay down. Trinity gave him a quick smile and made her way to the door, but before she could leave...
"Wait."
Trinity closed her eyes, afraid of what would happen, before she turned around. "What is it?"
Neo patted the bed beside him, inviting her to sit down. "Sit," he said, and Trinity, unable to resist, moved towards the bed and sat as if in a dream.
Neo took a deep breath and closed his eyes, as if he too were afraid of what could happen. "Trinity... what you said to me, while I was dead..."
Trinity bit her lip apprehensively and looked down, tracing the threadbare blanket with her fingertips.
"Did you really mean that? That... that you love me?"
This question caused Trinity to look up at Neo sharply. She never knew where she got the strength to say what she said next. "Neo, I meant what I said. Why would you think I didn't?"
Neo looked abashed. "I...I don't know. I guess I just... was scared."
Trinity's voice became more gentle. "Scared of what?"
Neo's voice broke. "What if they came after you because they knew that you were special to me? More special than the others? If they knew... that I loved you?"
Trinity took Neo's hand in her own, exalted. He loved her. "Neo, you shouldn't be afraid of them. We'll be strong. We..." she took a deep breath. Should she use this word? "...love each other. That matters more than fear."
Neo looked up at her. "You're right, Trinity. I hate it when you're right."
Trinity smiled. "Get used to it." She looked down at his hand, the one that was clasped in hers. She moved the two hands up so that they were in between the two faces. "You see this?" She looked at her hand holding his. "I'm here. And I'm not going anywhere."
Neo smiled back, a real smile; the first real smile that Trinity had seen from him. Trinity smiled again; her first real smile as well. "I love you, Trinity," he said softly.
Trinity didn't say anything, because she couldn't. Actions speak louder than words, which is why Neo leaned forward and kissed her. That was all that needed to be done.
A/N: So! Did you like it? Flames are used to set the hair of people I don't like on fire! WHEE!
