Their heads were bent in prayer
Bibles lay open all around
A few sat in chairs
While most were on the ground
Then the door burst open
Soldiers filled the room
A gunshot shattered the stillness
The sound seemed to spell out doom
The soldiers barked their orders
What they said was really a dare
They said deny the bible
And you leave without a fare
One by one they came
Each spitting on the holy book
But one younger girl
Could hardly bear to look
She knelt in front of the Bible
And wiped to spit off with her skirt
She knew that up in Heaven
God was really hurt
She whispered her last prayer
"Forgive them Lord they don't know
what they do"
And with those final words
Her life was through
Bibles lay open all around
A few sat in chairs
While most were on the ground
Then the door burst open
Soldiers filled the room
A gunshot shattered the stillness
The sound seemed to spell out doom
The soldiers barked their orders
What they said was really a dare
They said deny the bible
And you leave without a fare
One by one they came
Each spitting on the holy book
But one younger girl
Could hardly bear to look
She knelt in front of the Bible
And wiped to spit off with her skirt
She knew that up in Heaven
God was really hurt
She whispered her last prayer
"Forgive them Lord they don't know
what they do"
And with those final words
Her life was through
