The Story of a Farmer

Prologue:
A long time ago, on the continent of Aranna, the once magnificent Empire of Stars had crumbled into oblivion… paralyzed by its own power hungry legions, and torn asunder by an ancient and merciless evil. But the 10th legion, the dying empire's most valiant soldiers, and most trusted, withdrew far to the west to a land called Ehb, seeking to preserve what their empire had lost. Here in the rugged mountains and rich valleys of their new home, they founded the Kingdom of Ehb, a kingdom that has embraced peace and freedom for 300 years, but… there was a price. Few now remember the evil that opposed them. Fewer still recall the dark sorceries cast to save them. And who could predict that one humble farmer would stand between a vengeance from the past, and the survival of the kingdom?

It was just another day on the farm, Damien thought as he walked out to his fields. As he went to get his pitchfork and hoe, his dog, Argos, came running up to him. "Hey boy!" he said as he knelt down and pet the dog a couple times.
Damien was a tall man with sandy-blond hair combed backwards over his head that lead down into a well-trimmed beard and moustache. He had bright olive green eyes to accent his already handsome visage.
Although it was morning and the sun had yet to crest the nearby mountains, the heavily forested farmlands managed to keep remarkably warm.
When Damien got to the newly tilled ground of the crop, he had been working on the past few days, he reached out and grabbed the hoe that was leaning against a nearby wheelbarrow and began to work the ground. He only stopped to look at Argos who, looking over by the small bridge, began to bark.
"What is it boy?" Damien asked, as he looked over his shoulder to see his friend, Norick, hobbling over toward him.
When Norick collapsed on the small bridge connecting their two farms, he knew something was wrong. He began to run over to Norick, dropping his hoe while he ran. He got to Norick as he fell down on the bridge and began to say something.
"The Krug are attacking!" Norick forced out, gasping for air, " I couldn't hold them back… you have long been my friend, but… you can do nothing more for old Norick. Go to Stonebridge. Find Gyorn. If the Krug have elsewhere betrayed us, your bravery will be needed by the king."
"But you…" Damien trailed off, falling to his knees.
"Go now," Norick finished with one last ragged breath… and lay motionless…
