Prologue
He tried to scream, but no sound came from his mouth. He was helpless; alone in the middle of the woods. A bloody crevice in his shoulder signified that he had been bitten; cursed for life. Writhing in silent agony, he realized he would have to wait it out until someone found him. Old enough to understand what had happened to him, he whimpered in fear. Perhaps the beast will come and finish me off, he thought, staring at the cold moon overhead. It would be better than being slaughtered by my own people.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The Lupin family raced out of their house in a frenzy, unable to find their youngest son.
"Remus!" They called. "Remus, where are you?"
Adrienne Lupin was hysterical with anxiety. She had had no idea that six-year-old Remus was missing until breakfast that morning. Her husband, Isaac, and eldest son Romulus, followed her into the forest near their home.
"Mum.." Romulus's voice trembled. "Mum, last night…it was a full moon, wasn't it?" Mrs. Lupin spun around to face her son, who had just turned twelve the week before. A look of horrified revelation came over her face. They searched more fiercely for Remus.
"Adrienne! Romulus! Over here, I've found him!" When they reached Mr. Lupin, Romulus gasped; Mrs. Lupin had to fight back a scream. There, lying in a crumpled heap on the ground, was Remus. He was moaning in pain, in a small pool of his own blood. His family couldn't count the number of bruises and cuts he had; there were far too many to tell. Mr. Lupin gently picked up his son and carried him back to the house, his wife and other son not far behind. That night, the Lupin family solemnly acknowledged the fact that their lives would never be the same.
A/N: Short prologue; I love cliffhangers. Well, it's not really a cliffhanger, it's just really short. Review/critique down below.
