Clark couldn't help himself. All of a sudden his hands were on Lex's
forearms, slowly sliding up and down. He and Lex had been friends for a
long time, but they never hugged or roughhoused or patted each other on the
shoulder or did anything that involved physical contact. Clark wasn't sure
why this was suddenly concerning him, but when he thought about it he
realized that it had been bothering him for a while without him really
knowing it. It had been building and building and now he found that he had
a burning desire to touch Lex, apparently as a result of this
disconcertion.
Lex gave Clark an inquiring look which prompted him to snap out of his reverie. Through a conscious effort he managed to slowly slide his hands down Lex's arms with the intention of removing them, but his fingers never left the smooth purple shirt. Lex grabbed his wrists and said, "Don't stop, Clark. I didn't mean to give you a funny look, you just caught me by surprise."
Clark, still marveling over this astonishing speech, didn't move. Did Lex just give him permission to touch him? Did he imply that he wanted Clark to touch him? Lex perceived Clark's thoughts, so to erase any doubt he put one hand on Clark's arm and reached the other up to stroke his soft, dark hair.
Clark was so stunned by this that he still didn't move at first, but then when Lex moved his hand to his face and stroked it with his thumb, Clark decided that all this really was happening and it would be ok for him to do something besides gape at Lex. He smiled, put his arms around Lex, and pulled him close. Lex nuzzled Clark's neck and kissed it.
"I've wanted to do that for a long time," Lex told him.
"Really?" Clark asked.
Lex stroked Clark's cheek again and said, "For a very long time."
Clark saw that Lex's eyes were on his lips, and his own dropped to Lex's. Then as one their faces drew closer and they shared the sweetest, most incredible kiss either of them had ever had.
Lex looked deep into Clark's eyes, trying to read his expression. Lex had known he wanted to kiss Clark for almost the whole time he had known him. He was fairly certain, however, that it was a recent discovery on Clark's part. Lex knew that they were meant to be together, and he hoped Clark knew it too.
Clark did know it, and it was precisely what he was thinking about at that moment. He finally knew why he had been longing to be close to Lex. He had loved him all along. Kissing Lex wasn't like anything he had felt before. He had kissed Lana, but it was a completely different experience. Lana was his dream girl, and the dream girl of almost every teenage boy. To him she was a beautiful, perfect fairy princess. It had been his dream to kiss her, and when he did that was exactly what it felt like. A dream. But when he kissed Lex, it didn't seem surreal at all. It was beautiful and satisfying and absolutely real. Lana had been the love of his dreams. Lex was the love of his reality.
