Disclaimers: I don't own X/1999 or any of its characters. Oh darn.

Notes: I wrote this while viewing episode 15 for the hundredth time. Please tread carefully, as there are spoilers floating around. This fanfic is just
a short implied Daisuke/Hinoto one shot.

Enjoy!

Sleep Peacefully

Some people may call the ability of seeing the future through dreams a gift of the Gods. And it may be so. With such power, it would be possible to influence the history of the world. However, even with this great gift, a dreamseer is still human.

I see her everyday, suffering from the pains of the not-so-distant future. How it must feel, to know the fate of the world, yet unable to change it. The feeling of total helplessness, desperately fighting a losing battle. When the world crumbles around her, all she can do is watch from the sidelines.

Not even the refuge of a deep sleep can comfort her. For when she sleeps, she is haunted by more nightmarish dreams. I cannot even begin to imagine the weariness she feels each day of her life. Dream after dream. Nightmare after nightmare.

It was my destiny to serve you. The one most dear to me, is you. I, Daisuke Saiki, swore to protect you until my last dying breath. True, I wish I was one of the Dragons of Heaven, but that does not mean that I regret ever serving you. Preordained destiny or not, the decision to serve you was of my own free will.

It has been eight long years together. Eight years of me serving you to the best of my ability. Eight years of making you smile at my naivety . You always knew what was on my mind, when something was wrong. Lady Hinoto, you knew me better than my own parents. Whenever you spoke kindly to me, I blushed. Blushed, because I was touched -and slightly embarrassed- that you truly cared. Eight years of those comfortable silences... Everything just seemed right. These were the moments I cherished most with you.

Both of us knew what would happen in the end to me. But don't worry, Lady Hinoto. I'll be doing what my uncle Seiichiro advised me to do many years ago in the windy field. I'll be protecting the one most dearest to me.

Lady Hinoto, I want you to sleep peacefully.

The End.

So, how did you like it? Please, leave reviews and constructive criticisms. Have a nice day!
