Author's Ramblings: Oh, come on. You know you've always wondered about Mew, the "legendary pokemon". I have had this (and several other long, epic stories that I never sit down to write because I'd be 80 before I could ever finish) (I am a teenager, by the way) Anyway, I've had this story along with many others, in my head for the past four years, and if I can get this down, then maybe I can convince myself to write those other stories. So, all in all, just read it. It won't be that painful, I promise. Somehow I have a feeling I'm going to get a lot of flames off this.....

Um, I was going to start the story here, but I think I'll give you an introduction to the characters and give some background on the Mew culture instead. I frequently forget that no one else has the same little world in their heads as I do. I have tweaked the pokemon world a little bit. (Even though it is technically a proper noun, I never capitalize it. It takes too much time out of my writing, and besides, do you think in the pokemon world they bother to capitalize it all the time?? Nooooo.....) I haven't just tweaked it a little bit, I have tweaked it A LOT. So, here goes.

Mews: They are NOT pokemon. (in my world, at least) At the current point in the story, there is NOT just one of them. We will end up with just one. (Why else would this be called Genocide?? Genocide: killing of an entire race. But actually, Mews aren't a race, they are a SPECIES. So, I could call this Extinction, but it doesn't sound the same.) The Mews are peaceful creatures that inhabited the earth before mankind came. (Let's just skip dinosaurs.....I think they're ugly anyway....) They live on Pangaea, the continent made up of all the continents, before it split into Kanto, Johto (yes, in my weird little world, Kanto and Johto are different continents) and the Orange Islands, below Kanto. Johto is on an entirely different side of the world from Kanto. Naturally, I made this up before I ever got Gold and Silver, sorry. This story takes place on Kanto. The Mews live on the beaches of Kanto. They like the warm climate and the water. They also live there because the inside of the continent is dark, murky, and forested, inhabited by primitive but fierce tribes of Australopithecus, the very first ancestors of humans. (Description: small, upright walkers with ape-sized brains) Now, something very important.

Mew Pacifist Bonds: Pacifists are like Gandhi; they can make a point without violence. I have a set of old Mew legends that I've imagined. Yes, I have too much spare time, but one of them is about the first Mew ancestors. One day at the beginning of time, a Mew got extremely angry. His child had been eaten by a pack of Growlithes. This Mew got so mad that he destroyed every Growlithe to ever exist. (These weren't Growlithes like you and I think of them, they were the ancestors of modern ones.) The Mew succeeded, and hundreds of species that depended on the Growlithes for food died out. The balance of nature was upset, yada yada yada, you get the picture. He felt awful about being responsible for such a thing, and made every Mew swear to never hurt a living being until the end of time. The End.

But even so, in this era of Mews, the pacifist bonds remain, making it a terrible and unforgivable sin to break them. The bonds grew so deep, into the conscience of every Mew, that it was almost like a spell put on them to make them shun violence. The Australopithecus, and many other predators, would sometimes hurt a Mew. Living inside the continent gave the Mews a strong urge to break their pacifist bonds, which they had sworn not to do. So they live on the beaches, where few predators live.

Don't dismiss the Mews for wimps, though. They're not all cute and cuddly like in the first movie. The Mew are POWERFUL. As in, the Mew who killed all the Growlithes in the world did so by blinking twice. A Mew who was really concentrating could blow up a small planet. Yikes. Anyway, moving on.

The Mew Religion: Yuck. I don't want to explain all this. But, so you're not lost when the actual story begins...

God: Yeah, there is one, same as in some of our religions. But here, the Mews just call Him Benevolence. Most of their mythology doesn't even mention Him. He doesn't do much himself, though. He works through other people, like.....

The KEY: Okay. The Key is the Spirit of Genesis, Creation, the Beginning, the Big Bang, whatever. Its job is to create beings and bring them to life. Its power is a little unpredictable, and It creates a lot of other things as well, like problems and solutions. It always makes more solutions than problems, being a good spirit and all. Its symbol is an orb of misty golden light. Anywhere where the Key is at work you'll find the golden mist. Don't ask me, my imagination scares me sometimes....

The STAR: The Star is the Spirit of Healing. This spirit is considerably easier to understand than the Key. It teaches the Mews how to heal the sick, and can, on occasion, bring the dead back to life. (Think 'pokemon tears', from the First Movie) Its symbol is an orb of clean white light.

The SUN: Um, this one's a little abstract, like the Key. The Sun is the Spirit of Life. Its job is to infuse living people with strength and joy. The Mews liked to worship this Spirit, because It always made them happy soon after the worshipping. The Sun, however, can be fickle, and can destroy, as well as create, happiness. It is a good spirit, though, and only harms people if they really deserve it...... Its symbol is a fireball.

So, that's the Mew religion. Basically, the three spirits are all that's necessary to create and sustain life. The Key creates a being, the Sun gives it life and happiness, and the 'fire' to live, and the Star heals that being when it is sick or injured. However, there is one problem:

The DESTROYER: You can pretty much guess what this spirit does. It is death, sickness, injury, starvation, and all forms of misery all rolled into one. Its main power is death, though. The opposite of this spirit is all three of the other Spirits of Benevolence, but mostly its enemy is the Key. Good news for the Mews, though: the Destroyer and the Key fought a big battle at the beginning of time, and the Key won. So, the Mews are immortal, never get sick, never get injured, and always have enough food. They eat the yatra plant that grows in sand on the beach. It is a plant that, when someone has consumed enough of it, makes the eater immortal. The Mews guard the secret very carefully from other species.

The Devil: This spirit is called Malevolence, and is the opposite of Benevolence. (Well, duh..) Malevolence's tool is the Destroyer, who unfortunately for him, got beaten by the Key. However, Malevolence is older and more powerful than his pawn, and is hungering for revenge on our good spirit, the Key.

End of Mew mythology lesson.

That was tiring. I feel like everyone who isn't me is lost. Just hang on, and maybe read this twice.

News Flash: Mews can evolve. They're still the same after they do, they're just more powerful and look a bit different. It's not like with pokemon, where they're an entirely different species.

What do Mews look like, anyway? If you've seen the first movie, you have an idea in your head, but it's not entirely accurate. First, they don't all look alike. Most Mews stand (or float, usually) about 5 feet high. Mew, what we think of as Mew, is exceptionally small for her species. (Yes, she's a she. I'll get to that later.) Mews can be as small as one foot high, or as tall as 6 feet high. They have a long, sinewy, graceful body like a cat, and have huge blue, green, or purple eyes. They have either pink or soft purple, almost invisible fur. So, actually, they are a pretty diverse species. After they evolve, they pretty much look the same, except they grow human-like hair, which like us, the boys tend to cut short, and the girls wear long. Humans actually got that idea from the Mews, you know. (In the poke-world, at least.)

To evolve, a Mew must have reached the full capacity of their powers. It takes may take a Mew thousands of years to be as powerful as possible.

Powers of a Mew: all psychic powers, all normal-type powers, all flying-type powers, and their own brand of magick. (Magick with a K on the end simply means it's real, not like magic tricks a magician uses.) Their magick appears very simply, if a Mew chooses to display it. With Mew magicks, one has to cup their hands in front of them, and an orb of it will appear. The magick most Mews have is very strange in appearance. It is about 6 inches long, not an orb, but looking like like a bunch of dull metallic silver sticks, all bundled very tightly together. It is smooth and feels like putting your hands through warm cream or butter. Their magick is just the potential of something truly powerful, like the Spirits of Benevolence's power. Their magick is truly unique; a clean slate that the user can draw anything they want to on it.

Finally, the characters. Hopefully you're still with me.

Mews do not have names. They removed them by choice, at the beginning of time. (The beginning of time was a busy few years...) The reason being is that names are too personal; they lose their power if they're said too often. Instead the Mews use relation-names, like Mother, Father, Friend, Sister, Cousin, and even Acquaintance. A single Mew has as many names as the number of

types of relationships they have. Since Mews like talking mind-to-mind, this doesn't get confusing as often as you think it might. A Mew does have a name, though, a secret one. All Mews have it, and yet not one Mew would ever admit it. Mews never tell anyone their names, because of this. An odd quirk of the culture is that a Mew who ever tells even their own mother and father their secret name is considered an outcast. Anyway, here are the characters.

Mew (Shhhh.......secret name: Aiasha)

She is the main character. She is The Mew, the one who is the last living member of the Mew species, the one who appeared in Pokemon:the First Movie. However, she is only 11 years old in this story, still considered a little girl-child by her culture. She is shy and somewhat moody, an outcast in the Mew version of school. Fitting in and being the ancient Mew version of 'popular' in school requires talent at a game called Hunan-Quoir, called Hu for short. (And pronounced Heew-nan cur) Mew hates the game and prefers to spend her time writing out elaborate plays and stories on papyrus scrolls, which the Mews use for paper. Gifted with the power of prophesy, the future is at times astonishingly clear to her at times. This power scares her when her visions come true, and she never has told anyone about it.

Brother

Naturally, from the title, you can guess that he's Mew's brother. He's five years older than her, five feet taller, and the opposite of her personality. He's gregarious and outgoing, not to mention talented at Hu. Nevertheless, he's one of the few people who bothers getting past Mew's moodiness, and he will do anything to protect her. (Although, if you asked him, he'd tell you she drives him nuts, and she would say the same thing about him.) Brother has purple fur and purple eyes.

Mother

Mew and Brother's mother, she is warm and caring, and loves her children a great deal. Brother is her pride and joy, but she worries constantly about her daughter's lack of social skills. Mew loves her mother, but wishes that she would just let her be herself. Mother isn't quite old enough to be evolved, so she looks a bit like her daughter, with pink fur and lighter blue eyes than Mew's.

Father

He is very tall, with dark purple fur, and purple eyes, like his son. But his son is growing so fast, Father may one day be outdistanced. Father is also very caring, but doesn't worry as much as his wife. He loves Mother a great deal, even after many years of marriage. He is not evolved either.

Brother's Friends

Mew calls them just like what they are to her. "Brother's Friend. " They are all large, talented at Hu, and hate school, like Brother. They don't like Mew, and think Brother's attempts to stand up for her in the face of their teasing is pathetic.

Rival

Rival is about 3 feet tall, like most of the girls in Mew's class, and she has pink fur and green eyes. She learning quickly at Hu, and is very pretty. Mew hates her, and would openly profess by calling her 'Enemy,' if it weren't for the fact Rival won't even acknowledge Mew, simply calling her, 'Acquaintance.'

Rival's Friends

Simply put, these girls are mean, and they will do anything to look good in front of Rival, especially putting Mew down.

Acquaintance

She is a shy girl, who has none of Mew's edge to get people off her case. Mew tolerates the girl only because Acquaintance is picked on, like her, and worships the air Mew flies upon.
