Meeting Raelcra
By Moonlight_Glider
It was a nice day-the sun shining on fair Neopia, with the birds singing a jovial tune. A lot of other Neopets were out with their owners having picnics and playing. Moon, Lyvina, and I were just out for a pleasant stroll through Neopia Central. Lyvina brought along her Doglefox named Bifteck so it could get some fresh air. I looked around: most of the other pets around me had petpets, too. The thought puzzled me for a while, but I then shrugged it off.
Moon decided to have a sit down in the grass beneath a large oak tree. My sister and I joined her willingly and snuggled in beside her. But, I continued to look around. Petpets. And then a thought came to mind: Why didn't I have a petpet, too?
I glanced up at Moon, and she returned the gaze. "Yes?" she asked me. "Something on your mind, Nova?"
I felt selfish. How could I ask my owner, who had brought me to her home only a week earlier, for a small companion? With this, I didn't reply.
"Nova?"
I jumped slightly upon hearing her voice again. "Oh.." I said quietly, "I was just wondering...."
"Yeah?"
"Well, Lyvina has a petpet...and I, uh..." My voice trailed off.
At this, she told me with her eyes that she knew what I was trying to ask. "Would you like to look for a petpet, Nova?" she asked me. My tummy was filled with butterflies as these words came from her mouth. I nodded with a big smile on my face.
So, it was decided. We were going to go to the petpet shop nearby to look for a petpet. As we neared the entrance to the store, I grew more excited. Finally, we walked through the door.
Suddenly, the three of us seemed surrounded on all sides by petpets. Lyvina gripped her Doglefox tightly so it wouldn't get lost. The shopkeeper came to us and greeted us. Moon told him that I desired a petpet. He smiled and showed us all of the different kinds, but I seemed to be uninterested in what I saw.
After about an hour of looking, I looked up at Moon. "You like any?" she asked. I felt terrible as I shook my head. She didn't seem mad, but that didn't make me feel any better. "So, shall we go?" she said to Lyvina and me. I thanked the shopkeeper for his time, and we were on our way home.
While we walked home, Neopets continued to play in the park. I was silent as I watched Lyvina chasing Bifteck. Moon continued to be in a cheery mood when she suddenly bumped something.
Something Has Happened!
You find a Ghoti on the floor!
I watched Moon as she picked up a small, orange creature with red markings on it's back. My eyes widened. Why....it was a petpet! And a neat one at that!
Moon turned to me. "Wow, we're lucky!" she said, with surprise in her voice. "We search all day for a petpet and it turns out we find one here!" She knelt down and handed the small orange bunch to me. "Would you like it?"
I took the petpet in my arms. It looked different from all of the pets we saw in the store. The petpet looked up at me with big, black, beady eyes and purred. At hearing this, I hugged the small creature and nodded at Moon's question. "I want to name it Raelcra!" I said, as I had been thinking about a name for almost the whole day.
Raelcra the Ghoti purred as we walked home. I couldn't believe it-I had my own petpet! I felt so special, but I know that Raelcra felt really special, too.
