Disclaimers: I don't own this. Otherwise why would I be here, huh?
Warnings: Angst. Shounen-ai, Determined!Yuki (which I reckon needs a warning…), bad writing and angst. Did I mention angst?
Pairings: *sweatdrops* HaruxKyou, YukixHaru, YukixKyou. These will occur at some point. Although it's a love triangle, it won't be a threesome. And I already know just who the end pairing will be, so I'm afraid you won't be able to change my mind. Unless you have a very good argument.
Notes: The Furuba plot bunny that set up residence in my mind. x.x
Although this appears to have no beginning or end or explanation, trust me – there will be one. This takes place midway through this timeline, which is divided into two parts. The first chapter will begin at the start.
The title comes from Matchbox 20's song, Mad Season. Which I listened to too much, and actually reflects the fic somewhat. But this is only really a working title, and if I get any better ideas, it'll change.
Any suggestions welcome.
Mad Season
Prologue
They all looked up and fell quiet as he came into the room and sat down at the place that Tohru had always set for him, even when it was clear he wasn't coming down to eat with the rest of them.
'Where have you been?' Tohru said eventually with a concerned look towards the redhead, finally breaking the tense silence.
'Missing meals makes Tohru worried, stupid cat,' Yuki muttered coldly. He scowled when he received a reproving and unusually serious glance from Shigure, and a sad look from Tohru.
Kyou remained silent, looking carefully at his food and picking at it. Eventually he murmured softly, 'Well, that's one person who does care about me.' His voice was completely flat, empty of all emotion. It sounded hollow to the others at the table. '…I've been speaking to Shishou. Making arrangements.'
'Arrangements?' Haru, who had been previously silent, whispered nervously.
Kyou looked in the other direction. 'Yeah. He says it'll be okay, and I'll be able to make it to school from there. The dojo, I mean.'
There was a long pause. Tohru fidgeted anxiously. 'Then Kyou isn't going to live here anymore?' she said softly and painfully.
'Aa. I'm sorry, Tohru. It's nothing to do with you. …I guess I should apologise to you too, Shigure, for always breaking stuff.' The cat managed a weak grin at his cousin.
'And?'
Kyou turned to Yuki at the expectant word. 'Whaddya want me to say, you damn rat.' The usual words were said an unusually icy tone.
The girl frowned as she watched this. Just what had gone on between them? Things had changed so fast… A little while back, she had thought things had finally settled down for the better, and look where they were now.
'I guess I should give you and Haru my blessing,' Kyou said after a moment. Across from him, the ox flinched at the words. 'After all, Yuki,' Kyou continued, 'is that wanted you wanted? You win. Just like always.' The bitterness and pain in his voice was clear for everyone. He looked across at Tohru. 'It was nice.'
It took her a moment to realise he meant the food she had cooked, and she hastily nodded.
'…Well then. Goodbye.'
Kyou got up, picked up a rucksack from by the door and left the room. The occupants of Shigure's house heard the front door loudly slam shut a moment later.
Tears filled Tohru's eyes. Things had changed so much, and she knew that Kyou was hurting. But he wasn't the only one in pain. And she didn't know why.
Four weeks ago, everything had been perfectly fine.
In just the last month, what exactly had gone on between Yuki, Kyou and Haru?
~And I'm crying
Isn't that what you want?~
Some reviews would be welcome. ^_^
