"InuYasha!" An arrow was released from the miko's pale hand, and twanged
from the bow, aimed for the hanyou's chest.
His golden eyes widened, and he dropped the sacred Shikon no Tama -- the Jewel of Four Souls. "Guuh .!" InuYasha voiced as the priestess Kikyou's sacred arrow hit it's mark, pinning him to the ancient tree. "K-Kikyou . I thought . We ." The words stuttered to a stop, ended as InuYasha fell . into death. His golden eyes flared once in defiance, anger, and hatred, then closed slowly, and InuYasha's chin dropped onto his chest.
"What . What the hell just happened? What the hell is going ON?! Am I ... am I dead? No. I can't be ... dead. ...Can I?
" Come on. Get a hold of yourself, InuYasha. Relive what just happened...
"Today was the day Kikyou was to use the Jewel on me. Today ... I was to become human ... To be with Kikyou. So I went to the arranged meeting place at dawn, as I promised."
"Die, InuYasha!" Arrows whistled by him, and hit the tree behind him. He turned, a snarl on his face, to see his attacker ... but he already knew. That voice ... Her voice ... She was trying to kill him?!
"I should have known. It was too good to be true ... that she, beautiful, wonderful, amazing Kikyou, would love a 'worthless hanyou' like me ... I let my guard down, for an instant! ...And Kikyou betrayed me. So, I ... I went to steal it from the village. The Jewel."
InuYasha glared at her for a moment, concealing the absolute hurt, shock, and humiliation of the betrayal, burying it deep into his soul. He leapt off towards the village, more specifically, towards the Shrine where the Shikon no Tama was being purified. Amid the frightened cries of "InuYasha!" the hanyou smirked. Diving into the shrine through the roof, he paused, covering his sensitive nose with his sleeve. Grabbing the Jewel from it's stand, his smirk widened. The doors burst open to reveal men from the village, armed with bows, arrows, and spears. InuYasha easily dodged them, then exited the shrine through the roof. It exploded below him. "Heh," he muttered, his smirk becoming even wider. "Finally ... A way for me to become full-youkai at last."
"As I carried the Jewel, I heard the villager's screams of pain, their pathetic cries for help. For deliverance. For death. I laughed at them then, those weak, pathetic humans. Doomed to crawl and die in the mud they were born in. Laughed. Then..."
"InuYasha!"
"It was she. Kikyou. ...My Kikyou. She ... she told me I could become human. ...That I could be with her, that as a human, we could live our lives together. "But she betrayed me. She had once said that she could not kill me. ...The bitch lied."
An arrow flew, straight and true, from the bow, towards InuYasha's chest. His eyes widened in surprise ... and fear. There was a hollow, metallic thud as the arrowhead went deep into the tree trunk, pinning InuYasha to the rough bark.
"And . I'm here. Still pinned to that damned tree by that damned woman's arrow . !
"Oh, Kikyou. I never meant for this to happen. All I wanted was to be with you. "But I guess it wasn't mutual, hm? I guess the villager's wagging tongues got to you . "The Lady Kikyou, and that lowly hanyou?" I heard their whisperings . but I didn't care! Kikyou, I thought you were different . I didn't think what people said mattered to you .!"
"InuYasha!" An arrow was released from the miko's pale hand, and twanged from the bow, aimed for the hanyou's chest.
"Dammit, Kikyou! Are you going to haunt me?! I can't die . I can't rest in peace! Believe me, I'd be more than happy to die, Kikyou . but you have to give me some answers!"
