I'll Remember
I look out over the people below, around, and above me.
Blue and gold and bodies everywhere.
Gold and silver and copper are our friends.
My best friends, all of them.
Nowhere I'd rather be,
I'm in my zone.
When I'm 50 I'll remember this moment and cry
Because I'll remember that it was moments like these
That made me my happiest.
I'll never forget the love and the fellowship
We bled, sweat, cried, and even celebrated a bit.
We celebrated getting better,
And the sun was in our eyes dawn to dusk,
The mud in our shoes
And suddenly four years is all too short a time to be with you.
We were here when the school was empty
And we were here when it was at its fullest.
And no matter what they said
Or what they did to drag us down
None of it mattered.
We had each other.
Our family. Our band family.
We worked hard and played hard,
Sometimes we laughed, sometimes we cried,
But mostly we just loved each other.
An unspoken comradery.
It seemed like it would never end,
But as I see you walk the path walked before
Still in blue and gold I know it's our last time
And we won't see you again.
There'll be others, as there always has been.
How many tears has this floor soaked up with the oil and spit?
Too many.
And though you've moved on, you'll always remember the times we had
The work we did, the rewards, the punishments,
The disappointments and the surprises,
But most importantly we'll remember each other.
Because they can take away our music
And they can take away our programs
But they can never take away our memories.
And I'll remember you forever.
