The Blade Falters
After I while
I ventured into a world,
And found a demon so renowned
Hidden within the body of a young boy.
I lay in wait,
Allowing my eye
To amuse me,
Until I truly knew.
Then one day,
After years had passed,
I met with the young boy and he was taller than I.
His green eyes
Looked into mine,
And each knew who the other was.
My sword was drawn
Upon his throat,
And he was ready to die,
Until he addressed me by name.
"Hiei," said he,
"You musn't be so worried,
For I am the fox,
The midnight rose."
My crimson eyes widened,
And my gaze was disbelief.
Yet he stood by me bravely,
Willing to accept the pain
Of a sure death.
"Kill me if you must," he said,
"Yet know that I am the demon fox."
His eyes dared me,
And his grin urged me on.
I faltered.
Why was my swift blade
Detained by this boy?
He sat calmly in the shade
And made my sword look a toy.
