The Bell Tolled

Disclaimer: I don't own Zelda.

Info: This is an MM song-fic. It is my vision of what goes through Link's mind if you just let the moon crash, or if he drops a certain Ocarina, etc. The song itself is slow, and I will put it in **. The rest of it is Link's thoughts.

**When the bell tolled one, the day was almost done.

When the bell tolled two, I thought of you.**

Link searches frantically for the Ocarina. Tatl hovers nearby not really

paying attention, until Link suddenly cries out.. "IT'S GONE!"

**When the bell tolled three, I was sure to be,

Finally looking at my end.**

Tatl and Link search the area frantically. But there is no trace of the special instrument. Link finally sighs and sits down. He looks up at the moon with tears in his eyes.

**I never thought this would happen to me,

Days went by without end.**

During all of his adventures, first in Hyrule, then here, he never imagined

being faced with something he couldn't handle. But now.....

**But now, looking up at the sky,

It's all too real for me to bear.**

That hideous face on the moon, Link has been hating it ever since he saw it.

Tatl hovers next to him silent. There doesn't seem to be much to say.

**The bell tolls four, soon to be no more,

The moon comes slowly closer.**

Staring at it, he can see it moving, ever so slowly. He finally looks down. Anju, Romani, Mikau, Darmani, they all trusted him. And he let them down.

**As the five o'clock bells ring, I think I can hear you sing,

A song I will no longer hear.**

As the bells ring signaling five o'clock, he can imagine hearing Zelda's voice

saying "come back soon, my hero", and Malon singing on the ranch. He will never

hear it again.

**I look to the sky, I open my eyes wide.

The moon now close enough to touch.**

The moon is only about three miles above him and still falling. He doesn't

fight the tears anymore. Tatl just floats there.

**My heart tells me I failed, the end is near,

All my work is for naught.**

He finally looks up. His eyes are a bit red around the edges, but most of the

tears are gone. There just aren't any more. Tatl lands on his shoulder, and gives

Link the fairy version of a hug.

**As the final seconds tick away, The trees begin to sway,

I feel the ground move beneath me.**

The earth begins to shake, first only a bit, then a lot more. On the horizon,

the sun is starting to come up. Link and Tatl watch it with sad eyes. It is the last one

they will see.

**The clock stands fast, morning light casts

Light enough to see by.**

The moon is almost on them. Soon they will be gone. Tatl starts yelling for

her brother to be somewhere safe. Link, however, only says four words.

"Zelda, I love you......"

**Then the clock struck six........**
