Notes: Short, concise, and to the point. I've found I don't hate Masao's character (not like Shiori's, at least - *shudders*), but I don't love him either. He's just a very three-dimensional character and one of my favorites.
Other: Set after the series (and after the Rei-in-hospital gig), but relatively free of spoilers. Just a quick semi-creepy thing.

Masao: Paint It Black
--
I am obsessed with darkness,
the intricacies and shades I
alone am privy to, that weave
into one being what I am
and shall be.
She once said I might
be painted black; I had
nothing about me but my precious,
beautiful darkness.
There is no pain in that knowledge,
only a cold triumph seeping in
day by day as colors recede
in wake of darker black. This
emptiness consumes and perfects
until it seems I am no longer
human, but a creature of ice
to be unstopped and unsheltered.
I wished to be Him, cloak
myself in the smoldering flames
of His existence; He was what
created me, reshaped me from
weakness into darkness. I owed
Him gratitude for perfecting
me, forging strength -
brutal, detached, frigid -
where I had none. I
desired Him for that.
She gave me purpose, to possess
and drive Her past the flimsy
barricades of Her sanity. I
wanted to spoil Her innocence,
remind Her I was merely one
of the black tones wandering
about, cast soot upon Her
pale white glow.
She escaped and He returned
from the ashes of His fire,
power and light in place of
cruelty and shadows, and
Her ivory melted to His forge.
I want them painted black.

End!

Feedback: Not wholly expected (what am I, invisible, people? ^-), but appreciated if you do. After all, if you take the time to read, at least take the time to review.
Disclaimer: Masao, Kira (referred to as She), and Rei (referred to as He) belong to Souryo Fuyumi and the various companies that have translated and published her work. The title is taken from the Rolling Stones song of the same name (written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards), remade by various others, including Vanessa Carlton and Utada Hikaru, respectively. I don't own anything! Yay!
