Here follows the final letter of Gilraen, daughter of Dirhael, to her son, Aragorn.

Aragorn, my son,
I have looked into your eyes, you are no longer my child, but the glory of a man. You are no longer a curious young boy, but a wise scholar of the world. So long have I watched you, yet, I have spoken so few words. My Estel, my child, my hope, you have grown before my eyes, though alone yet you seem. Though, do not fear, you are not alone. She watches you. She loves you. With love, you are never alone.
So many times did I wish to tell you, to speak of your father, though so long did I hold my tongue for the will of Lord Elrond. You have learned now that the world, in the life of a savior is not easy at all, and to tell you that you must face such a think as but the years of your youth would have been more weight than I wanted for you. I hope you understand that.
It seems that only yesterday you were a child, playing blissfully in the garden, and yet here you are, so much light within you and so much honor and valor about you. You have the tools set out, and when the hour arises, you will defeat all that you have fought for. I have faith in you, Aragorn.
Here I say my final piece, for this is the end. Alone I face the Doom of Men, yet I no longer fear for beyond this earth awaits Arathorn, and there, maybe I will find my peace.
Namarie, hen nin, estel nin, calan nin. Cuinar erin ah meleth o calan. Namarie, ion nin, an athan i rind o i ardhon, im innas garo sidh.*
Meleth uir, naneth nin,**
Gilraen

*Farewell, my child, my hope, my light. Live on with love and light. Farewell, my son, for beyond the circles of the world, I have found peace.
**Love eternally, your mother,
