The letter came in a creamy parchment envelope. I read my name on the
front. I flipped the letter over and saw a green wax seal with an "H" on
it. My heart jumped. They don't use wax seals in America.
I tore open the letter and read the first line of flowing, cursive handwriting.
Dear Miss Luna Potter,
We are pleased to announce that you have been accepted and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
I squealed (a nasty habit I picked up from Mum). "Mum, Dad, come quick! It came!" I ran to the head of the staircase and began hopping up and down, my red hair flying in my face.
Dad came first, blinking his eyes and shifting his weight the way people do when they've only just woken up.
He yawned, "What now, Luna?"
"It came, Dad!"
"What came?"
"My letter!"
He looked blank.
"From Hogwarts!", I continued. Dad nearly flew down the last five steps. I handed him the letter and watched him scan the page. Then he grabbed me into a hug and spun me around in a circle. I squealed again.
"Let's go tell your Mum," he said happily, bounding up the stairs like a child. "Ginny, Ginny!" he called. She (Mum) appeared in the doorway of their bedroom wearing a purple bathrobe. Her red hair was awry in a major bed head.
"Let me guess," she said, grinning, :this little lady's gotten herself a special letter."
I beamed and nodded.
"Congratulations!" she cried. Then she ruffled my hair. It flopped in my eyes and I smiled, feeling like a dog. Mum gave a little bark and I laughed and pretended to faint. Dad caught me and flung me over his shoulder. I gave a surprised and very muffled scream. "My colleges say Aurorors shouldn't start families," he said, bemused, "but I don't know what I'd do without you!"
