A/N: I wrote this with meh friend! We don't own anything, k? this is her first story, so be nice please r and r!! It's my first try at a Snape 1- shot. (

Severus Snape stood alone on the empty school grounds of Hogwarts. A drizzle of rain dripped steadily, but Severus barely noticed. His cold, grey eyes scanned the equally cold, grey lake. He had come to this place when he was feeling lost for many years now, since his own stay at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His eyes came to rest upon a gnarled willow tree near the water's edge. Severus felt the tree jerk a painful, unwanted memory. This tree had been his only refuge from the endless teasing of the Marauders.

**flashback** Severus Snape, a tall, slouching fifteen-year old, sat helplessly under an old willow tree on the bank of the Hogwarts Lake. His salty tears mingled with the drizzling raindrops. Silently, he willed the tears to cease, but they would not. He angrily pulled his knees up to his chin and shivered. Severus didn't want to admit it to himself, but he was afraid. Not of the Marauder's teasing, no, that he could survive. He was afraid of their disdain for him.
Regardless of the Marauder's childish antics, he had always admired them. You see, Severus was the only boy at Hogwarts with absolutely no friends. **end flashback**

Severus put his cold hands into the pockets of his robe. He new that Lupin was holding a memorial for Sirius, somewhere. Severus knew that he would not be welcome. Not in the eyes of the Order, nor the eyes of Black himself had he still been living.
Even with his grudge against the Marauders, Severus had always wondered what it would be like to be one of the group. Inseperable, always having friends by your side. The Marauders were all bound by the fact that they knew Lupin's secret-but also by something else. Severus himself had discovered that Lupin was a werewolf, but they had never accepted him into the group. The Marauders were best friends, and would be, werewolf or no.
Now, though, Severus could sympathize with at least one of the Marauders. Lupin, too, was alone. The potions teacher wondered how Lupin was feeling. Was it worth it to have a friendship and lose it, or to remain alone forever? Severus had never had friends. But, then again, he had never experienced loss, either. It didn't matter, though. One way or another, you always ended up alone.
Snape turned and walked steadily back towards the deserted caste.
Meanwhile, at 12 Grimmauld Place, Remus Lupin sat at the desk, pen in hand, teeth clenched. Although no one was around to listen, he spoke aloud.
"I can't go through with this."

A/N: you like? Should we maybe write more in the future, or continue? Or something?
