Summary: Rogue remembers...
Pairing: R/oc, implied R/J...kinda
Rogue thinks of Jean and reminds herself of Ash. Ash was dark, soulful and a lot like her name. She settled around you, rich and deep.
Ash was waiting at the bottom of the tree when Marie climbed down and until then, she almost thought she could pull this running away business off. But then she was met with a slightly taller, lean, chocolate eyed, dark haired girl. Hands buried in the pockets of her worn handed down jeans, Ash looked at her feet and then back up again,
"You could've at least said goodbye first."
Marie returned the taller girl's gaze and mentally kicked herself. In all the sudden rush to escape these people who did not accept her and to find some answers, she forgot about the one person who actually cared for her.
"I," she stumbled for the words, "I'm sorry. I meant to, but everything happened so fast and everything has changed -"
Stepping in, Ash reached for Marie's hand, voice aching, "I haven't changed."
She jerked her arm back, "But I have. Ash, I'm dangerous and I don't want to hurt you."
"I don't care."
"I do!" She threw her bag to the side, "I put a boy in a coma, Ash, that is not normal. I am not normal. And you and I both know that this town does not like things that are not normal."
Flickering her gaze away quickly, Ash took a deep breath, "Screw normal." And she collided into the shorter girl, clutching her face and crushing their lips together. Marie couldn't help but to kiss back, pushomg her against the tree, lips clasped. Her eyes watery, she shut them tight to keep the tears in.
Marie gave a slight whimper and pushed the other girl away, "No. No. Don't."
"Marie..." breathless with her head bowed, Ash whispered, "Don't go. Marie, please don't go."
Marie lifted Ash's head and smiled sadly, "I'm going to miss you."
The taller brunette blinked slowly and moved in closer.
"Ash, no." Marie said weakly, breath brushing against her face.
"It'll be worth it." Ash stated and closed the gap.
Breathing hitched, the shorter girl wrapped her arms around the other girl's neck. Sliding her hands along Marie's waist, Ash deepened the kiss, savoring the moment before it left. Warm tears trailed down her face, Marie cried because she knew exactly what was going to happen next.
Ash went tense, clinging onto Marie. Small groans and tiny shrieks escaped the fading girl's throat. Slowly and slowly, life slipped out of the dark eyed woman, until finally Marie felt her go limp. Pulling away, she layed the body down against the tree and sat there for a moment, letting everything sink in. Grabbing her bag, she kissed Ash on the forehead and stood up.
She walked away and dried her eyes.
Along with a small piece of her heart, she left all of Marie with Ash. And now she's Rogue. She's Rogue and she's thinking of Jean and she wishes that Jean could've at least said goodbye.
