'Catrin' by Gillian Clarke, rewritten by yours truly to reflect Dumbledore's thoughts on Harry. Inspired by OotP.
Harry
I can remember you, child
As I stood in a warm, dark
Street at the door watching
The muggle people taking
Routine for a night's sleep.
I can remember you, our first
Unhappy meeting, the tight
Rope of destiny which we both
Succumbed to. It was a plain
Normal house, a place to keep you, safe from
Harm and danger. I wrote
A letter explaining but
They heeded not my words
Of caution, instruction in
How to care for your special
Self. How special you were.
Neither won nor the lost the struggle
Against fate, that destructive force which
Holds us both. Still I am seeking to
Hide you, as you stand there
With your dark, messy
Black hair and your mournful
Emerald stare, bringing up
From Nature's pool that old rope,
Tightening about our lives,
Trailing red blood and tears,
As you ask is your full name
Really Harry Potter.
