She loved the way he moved, and watched in admiration. There wasn't anything special about it, aside from the fact that it was him doing the moving. Anything he did was amazing to her. He sulked when he walked, but she found it endearing. His sarcasm was rude to other people, but she found it hysterical. His style wasn't "the norm" for the area, but truth be told, she didn't care. Whatever he did, however bad people saw it, she saw the opposite.
She didn't quite understand it either.
She hated herself, for the position she had put herself in. When he had first come into her life, she only had one reason for him. Once she had that reason, she'd move on with her life. That was plan. There would be no real, permanent friendship, no emotional attachments, nothing.
The plan backfired -- big time.
In fact, just like her opinions being the opposite of others, the exact opposite happened with her plan. He was her best friend and did more for her in less than a year than people who had been there her whole lifetime. He was the smile she needed on bad days and the silly joke she needed to continue her laughter on good days. He was the one who lifted her up, even when she didn't need lifting. He held her when she needed it, and even though it probably hurt him more than her, he let her go when she needed it. He had been everything. Everything and more.
It wasn't hard at all to fall in love with him.
He made his way over to her, gave a small smile, and sat down beside her. She had so many things she could tell him -- needed to tell him -- but words failed her. Instead she rested her head on his shoulder, closed her eyes, and thought of a different world. A world where they could be together and there was nothing holding them back.
She knew nothing was holding him back, but what was holding her back?
Nothing. If she were to ever answer that question honestly, it would be nothing. But part of her just couldn't let go of the past, of a childhood love so innocent and pure, even if was nothing but pretend these days. But that past was her security blanket and provided her with comfort. She had herself so wrapped up the past just so she could feel safe. She'd rather be safe than take a risk and end up heart broken. Being with him would be a risk, because everything with him was a risk. So Amy stayed with Colin, because he was safe.
Colin didn't possess her heart -- therefore, he could never break it.
