Sleep tight
No more tears
In the morning
I'll be here
And when
We say
Goodnight
Dry your eyes
Because
We said goodnight
And now goodbye
Because
We said goonight
And now
Goodbye
The curtains fluttered softly in the wind's breath, swaying gently as it passed through the open window. He watched as they billowed, like pale ocean waves on an inky black shore scattered in stardust with dull and tired eyes. His fingers gripped the blankets and pulled them over his lean shoulders, crumpled beneath his chin as he snuggled into the bed and stared beyond the window.
Beyond the transparant glass that reflected everything inside the room.
Beyond what, at night time, seemed like nothing more then a wall of a prison that let him see what was out there, but not touch it, because he was never allowed to touch that kind of beauty.
His eyes were red from so many tears, and his face was streaked from the flow that raced from his fatigued gaze. His ears twitched, then folded as a sort of blissful blankness crept into his mind, chasing away the sorrow, pain, and sadness. It was just after midnight, and he had woken up from a nightmare, tears on his face and a cold sweat on the back of his neck.
At least now, after an hour's worth, the crying was stopping..
A last strangled whimper echoed in his ears, escaping from his throat, as he turned his face from the moonlight, burying it in the fluffy pillows at the top of his bed. His consant quiver started to slow down, the last liquid crystals cascaded into the already damp pillow. He curled, clutching the blanket against his body like a child afraid of the dark.. But he had nobody to comfort him. Nobody ever saw him like this, because he wasn't supposed to be like this. His shaky breathing started to even out as he reluctantly gave into sleep, his insides still tossing even though he was physically and mentally too exhausted to stay awake any longer.
Shadow would wake up the next morning, and it would be a normal day. He wouldn't remember what had happened in the middle of the night. He wouldn't remember the tears, or the nightmare.
He wouldn't remember that, again, he had cried over the loss of his Maria, after he had finally said goodbye.
Because now.. she only existed in his subconcious.
Haunting him in the middle of the night.
