Chapter 1
Pretty in scarlet
So pretty in scarlet
We slept a while
to turn it up and get it off our minds
i slept a while
to get it all
it seems allright
to find a place without a single life
where is the night
we run into
One year had passed since King Richard's return to England; Robin of Locksley had been given back his castle and land and everything seemed to be in order. That day Robin, however, seemed rather depressed; the sun had just risen in the east and he was standing on a gentle slope near Locksley castle. He had a lot on his mind, but mostly his younger brother, Will Scarlett. Will had chosen not to live with his brother although they were getting along now. The young man had built a new house in the old village in Sherwood forest again, living all by himself. Robin wasn't pleased with that, but Will had refused Robin's offer to live with him again and again. He sighed ... he hated to say this, but Will was even more stubborn than himself.
At the same time another Locksley was watching the sun rise. Will Scarlett was sitting before his small hut, shivering in the cold morning air; his fire ahd gone out at night and he was really longing for some warmth. Maybe he should visit his brother, but then again ... he didn't feel comfortable around him really. Or rather, he didn't feel comfortable at Locksley Castle. He hadn't been welcome there when his father had still been alive and he did not desire to go back there now.
He was about to go and get a blanket to warm himself when he heard the sound of hooves on the ground. He looked up to see two riders come up. He instinctively checked if he had his knives with him, but when the riders came closer he sighed in relief; it was just Marian with a young servant at her side.
"How may I serve you, dear sister?" Marian had convinced him to call her that.
"Well, I was just wondering how you were and so I decided to visit you. That's my new lady-in-waiting, Katherine of Exeter."
"My please," Will grumbled, not bothering to look at the girl.
"Well, and I was wondering if you would like to spend the winter with us," Marian added. "Robin is so busy all the time and I want to feel protected during my pregnancy."
They both knew that most of this was untrue, that Marian just wanted Will to have a warm place during winter, but to Marian's surprise Will didn't refuse her offer, but nodded.
"Well, I'm happy to hear this. Unfortunately I haven't brought a horse for you, so you will have to ride behind Katherine, I suppose."
Will shrugged. "I'll just get my stuff. Wait for a moment." The young man quickly gathered his few possesions before he returned to his sister in law and her servant. The girl turned towards him and for a moment Will was more than shocked: A deep scar reached from the girl's eye on the left side to her chin, disgracing her face. He tried hard not to look disgusted and got behind her, taking the rein away from her.
"Well, are you ready?" Marian asked.
When Will and Katherine nodded she rode off into the direction of Locksley Castle with the other horse right behind her.
A/N: Good? Bad? Indifferent? Should I continue?
