A New Beginning

My name is Piper Halliwell-Wyatt. I'm 29 years old, 7 months pregnant with my first child--a girl, and happily married to my husband of 2 1/2 years, Leo. Why is today so dreadful? 1 year ago today...my older sister, Prue, was killed. I recall the day well. May 28th, 2002. How did she depart this life? She was murdered by a demon. You see, my sisters and I are...were...the Charmed Ones. 3 powerful witches-- Good witches avowed to defend innocents from the forces of evil. Our powers were strong (especially with the power of 3) but they weren't enough to save Prue. For months, I questioned why I was alive and not her. Why I was saved and she was...dead. Now, glancing down at my bulging belly, I see why. My daughter is the reason I'm here. My baby girl...the daughter of a witch and a whitelighter.

The Powers That Be foresaw a magical, "charming," child. The daughter of a Charmed One. She will have more power than anyone could envision. She is my child. As my sisters stride into the attic I am thrust out of my musing.

Phoebe- Piper?? Sweetie, are you all right?

Piper- I'm okay... Just reflecting...

Paige- Honey, we understand how important she was to you. We'll leave you alone. I just thought you'd enjoy some soup.

I beam and express my thanks to her. Sitting here in the attic of my Victorian Manor--The Halliwell Manor, I can't help but feel secure. Phoebe, my other sister, lost Prue, as well. She lived through the same sorrow and agony that I did a year ago. As for Paige, she entered my life only a short time ago. She's our long-lost half-sister. (Long Story). Paige suffered the loss of her adoptive parents when she was a teenager. She's familiar with loss. I'm resolute to keep Prue's memory alive so that my daughter, Melinda Prudence Wyatt, will know how fantastic my sister was.
