Carla sighed. It was 7 pm already and she had done NOTHING today. She bit
her upper lip slightly and examined her fingers. The dark green color on
her nails begun to fade already. "Grace, you need to refresh your
nailpolish collection." She scolded in her mind.
Letting out a long "Aaaaaaaaah" she got up on her elbows on the bed and looked around the nicely decorated room. Too nicely decorated. It was her room. No, it was supposed to be her room. A room that her new stepmother had decorated for her. Sure she had asked for Carlas opinion, but what good was asking for someone`s opinion when eventually you still painted everything sky blue? Carla gave up. Not that she had cared before, but there was no point wasting your energy in a fight over a place where you barely lived.
A loud knock on the door pulled Carla down to Earth again. Pushing the green fluffy blanket away, she jumped out of the bed. Oak parquet under her bare feet felt uncomfortably cold as she slowly walked over to the door. "Take your time..take your time" words rolled over and over in her mind as she prepared herself to face the person-non-grata who was probaly telling her to turn down the music.
Quietly her hand landed on the shiny door-knob and with a speed of a snake she threw the door wide open.
"Eli!"
"Hey!"
Carla stood mouth wide open for a sec on the doorway until she recovered from the surprise of seing him here. Grabbing his wrist, she pulled him inside and kicked the door close. Jumping back into the bed, she tucked the green blanket around her waist and turned the music down a bit.
"I told you not to come here."
Eli looked around the room, taking in the sky blue walls, the big ceiling- to floor window, the big desk that was seemingly over-stuffed. The piles of schoolbooks, clothes, make-up items, all were tossed carelessly on the desk. The shelves were empty. The room would look like it wasn`t being used unless there hadn`t been a messy bed and the desk what looked like all Carlas belongings were on it.
"This doesn`t look like you." Eli smiled and sat on the bed next to Carla.
Carla looked as the mattress moved under his weight and then shot her eyes up to meet his.
"Nobody said it is me." Her eyes looked cold, the usual sparkle missing from them.
Eli kicked off his boots and sat so that his legs were on either side of Carla and pulled her close.
"What`s wrong?"
"Why did you come here?"
"I wanted to see you. You didn`t show up in school so I came over." Eli said while playing with her loose hair.
"Ever heared of calling?" Carla pulled away.
Eli watched as she looked down, rubbed her temples and then shot those steel grey eyes up to him, cold as ice.
"What did I do? I just wanted to see ya!" Eli`s voice held a impatient and irritated note. Telling himself that this way he wont get anywhere with Carla, he held back his emotions and rose from the bed. Walking towards the window, he pulled out a fag. Rolling the white item between his fingers, he smelled the sweet cherry fragrance. ` Aaah...how calming this could be..`
Carla stared at Eli`s back that was covered in a black jumper until she saw tiny white dots movng across it. Her voice sounded desperate when she talked.
"I didn`t want you to see this place. I didn`t want you to see these people. This is what I wanted out of my mind and life! And now, when you have seen it, it`s no longer a tiny disgusting place that sometimes comes on the surface in my fucked-up-life! I wanted to keep you on one side of the line and this hole on the other!" `and now I`m babbling....`Carla rubbed her face with her hands and sighed.
Eli hid the fag in his jeans pocket and walked back over where Carla sat.
Rubbing her back, he pulled hair out of her face and talked in a soothing voice.
"Why do ya freak out about this? I`m still me and you are you -- " Eli was cut off.
